It’s time for the June spaghetti night at the Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club.
It is June 20 from 5-6:30pm at the club, 1100 Lyons Ave, South Lake Tahoe.
Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door.
The $5 includes pasta, salad and bread. Steamers is responsible for all the fixings this month.
• Another popular golfer at the annual American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe is not coming. Tony Romo is going to be at the Cowboys’ training camp instead next month. Michael Jordan is also skipping the July event.
• Douglas County commissioners are set to vote on the Tahoe area plan June 20. The meeting in Stateline starts at 1:30pm.
• Sand Harbor was listed as one of the “10 Best Beaches for Families” by Family Vacation Critic.
• The first section of the 3.2-mile bike path that will ultimately connect Round Hill Pines Beach with Stateline along the South Shore of Lake Tahoe is complete. To mark the occasion, a dedication ceremony for America’s Most Beautiful Bikeway – South Demonstration Project is June 20, noon to 1pm at Kahle Drive. The next phase is slated to begin in late summer.
• The Paddle Run 2013 is a 1-mile standup paddleboard and 2-mile run at the Sparks Marina (300 Howard Drive, Sparks) on July 6 at 8am. Cost is $45. For more info, email pat@athleteinyou.com.

Please clear all combustible vegetation at least 30 feet from around your house. Install a fire safe roof, and clean the pine needles from the roof and eaves. Trim tree limbs back 10 feet from your chimney and remove any branches hanging over the house.
Stack woodpiles at least 30 feet from buildings and remove any vegetation and combustible material from beneath your deck.

The Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary recognized 13 students during the annual scholarship luncheon this month at Tep’s Villa Roma.
Scholarships of $1,500 were given to the following students who will pursue an education in health care and attend a university in the fall:
Douglas High School: Kaelin Mejia and Kendra Wynar.
South Tahoe High School: Melanie Grady and Christy Walowit.
Whittell High School: Garrett Bronken and Colette Craig.
Lake Tahoe Community College: Sunshine Campbell and Morgan Leilani.
Additional scholarships of $500 were awarded to graduating Mount Tallac High School students who are continuing their education at Lake Tahoe Community College or a trade school: Ashley Hernandez, Omar Gonzalez, Dulce Antonio, Clark Cabristante and Jaron Fields.
The California State Parks and the Sierra State Parks Foundation are hosting Living History Day at Pine Lodge, also known as the Ehrman Mansion, July 27 from 10am-3pm.
Living history activities will include tours, a children’s activity zone, an antique car show and a wooden boats display. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
All events are free, though there is a $10 parking fee.
Organizers of the event are looking for members of the community to help put on this annual living history day presentation. People of all ages are needed to wear costumes and play roles of the Ehrman family members, guests and employees. Helpers are also needed for the children’s zone that will include crafts, games, and activities.
Volunteers are needed to serve as greeters, parking attendants, facilities assistants, boathouse docents, crafters and raffle assistants. Volunteers may contact Heidi Doyle at (530) 583.9911 for additional information.
Volunteer orientation is either July 15 or July 23 at 4:30pm at the Sugar Pine Point State Park Nature Center.
In keeping with the South Lake Tahoe library’s Summer Reading Club theme “Reading is So Delicious”, there will be a series of special storytimes at the farmers’ market on Ski Run Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.
The program is free, and features stories and activities appropriate for young children.
This will be on Fridays from June 21-July 26 at 5pm.
Truckee is celebrating its railroad history and the town’s 150th and 20th anniversary’s on June 20 from 5-9pm.
Throughout 2013, Truckee is celebrating 150 years since establishment and 20 years since incorporation.
As workers built the Central Pacific Railroad from Sacramento to Reno, Truckee became a thriving boomtown. Today, the railroad remains a central part of Truckee’s economic and cultural heritage.
Union Pacific Railroad will be designating Truckee as a Train Town as part of its Train Town USA project at 5pm on the stage in front of the Train Depot in Downtown Truckee.
Douglas County Public Library is hosting “I Dig Dinosaurs,” a puppet show presented by the Dragon Theater Puppets.
The event is at the C.V.I.C. Hall (1602 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden) on June 25 at 4pm. Puppeteers will take people back in time to see dinosaurs.
This program is presented as part of the Summer Reading program and funded by the Friends of the Douglas County Public Library.
