The Tahoe Area Sierra Club’s annual Summer Party is July 17 at Regan Beach in South Lake Tahoe from 5-8pm.

The sunset party will include an exhibit by local photographer Jon Paul, music and a silent auction. Gourmet food will be served along with select wine from Naked Wines.

The annual summer party is the largest fundraising event of the year for the local Sierra Club.

The $35 tickets available at Aspen Hollow Nursery, Lake of the Sky Outfitters, Emerald Bay Nursery and League to Save Lake Tahoe. Tickets at the event will be $40.

From the 1930s to 1980s the “souvenir shop” at Camp Richardson stocked everything from film, postcards and trinkets to moccasins to toys to clothing.

The totem poles in front were from the movie set of “Rose Marie”, a classic 1936 musical starring Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy which was filmed at South Shore and Cascade Lake.

Today, the historic building houses the summertime ice cream parlor.

Truckee has the potential for a number of natural disasters. Wildland forest fire is clearly the No. 1 potential problem.

However, a variety of emergencies including wind storms, snow storms, extreme cold, flooding, earthquakes, hazardous waste spills, pandemic flu or act of terrorism might necessitate an emergency response. If an emergency suddenly occurred would you know what to do?

In order to ensure a safe response to a large scale emergency the Nevada County Office of Emergency Preparedness has published a Truckee Area evacuation guide. The guide provides valuable information on what to do before, during and after a major community emergency.

Guides are available in hard copy at the town of Truckee office l at 10183 Truckee Airport Road and through Truckee Fire. An online version is also available for download here.

The Wa She Shu It’Deh Festival is part of the summerlong annual Valhalla Arts, Music and Theatre Festival.

It is a celebration of tribal traditions dating back 9,000 years.

The celebration will feature traditional American Indian dancers and drum performers, art, basket weaving displays and Native American food. The festival is free.

It will take place on the Grand Lawn from 10am-5pm, July 27-28.

The historic Tahoe Tallac Site is located two miles past the intersection of highways 50 and 89. Head toward the lake and just past Camp Richardson on the lake side of Highway 89, turn right on the road with the sign Valhalla.

The California Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on July 6 in South Lake Tahoe.

The two possible locations are Highway 89 north of Highway 50 or Highway 50 between Al Tahoe and Ski Run boulevards.

The checkpoint will be staffed by officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency.

Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort and Lone Eagle Grille’s fourth annual Wine on the Water is Aug. 18 from 1-5pm.

The food and wine festival and charity event brings together more than 25 wineries, more than a dozen local restaurants, and live music.

All proceeds generated from ticket sales and silent auction sales will be donated directly to the Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe. Since the inception of Wine on the Water in 2010, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe has raised more than $91,000 for the local charity.

There will be a sustainable landscaping workshop on July 16 from 6-8pm at the South Tahoe Public Utility District office.

This free workshop will include information on: water saving technology, water-wise landscaping techniques, turf removal techniques and relandscaping ideas, yard fertility practices for healthier turf and cleaner water, and turf irrigation scheduling and maintenance.

The office is at 1275 Meadow Crest Drive, South Lake Tahoe.

Lake Valley and South Lake Tahoe fire department are joining efforts in a “Fill the Boot” style fundraiser for the 19 firefighters from the Granite Mountain Hotshots who died in the Arizona fires.

The fundraiser is July 7 from 8am-2pm on Highway 50 near the Bug Station in Meyers.

A benefit has been formed by the Prescott Fire Department and 100 percent of the funds collected in South Lake Tahoe will be donated to families of the 19 firefighters.

Donations may also be made at any of the South Lake Tahoe Fire Stations located at 1252 Ski Run Blvd., 2951 Lake Tahoe Blvd., or 2101 Lake Tahoe Blvd. and at Lake Valley Fire Station 7 at 2211 Keetak St. in Meyers.
