• With the more than $300,000 raised at the Tahoe Fund’s annual Founders Circle dinner this month, the nonprofit has exceeded its $1 million goal for the first major donor campaign called the Founders Circle.

• Cal fans can find some nostalgia at the upper bar at Chambers Landing on the West Shore where there are seats from the demolished UC Berkeley stadium.

• The Jerry Tindell equestrian clinic at Tahoe Donner in September has been canceled.

• The 9th annual Mutt Strut Poker Run is Oct. 13 in South Lake Tahoe. The event is put on by and benefits Animal Coalition of Tahoe.

• September is National Library Card Sign-up Month. Anyone who visits the South Lake Tahoe library during September to use their library card or sign-up for a new one will be entered into a drawing for great prizes.

The Bureau of Reclamation, in partnership with the Truckee Meadows Water Authority and the Truckee Carson Irrigation District, will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the completion of Lake Tahoe Dam on Aug. 30 from noon to 2pm.

The dam is better known as Fanny Bridge to those in Lake Tahoe.

The ceremony will begin with a welcome to Tahoe City, a history of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California with a Tribal invocation, and comments by agencies and local officials. The ceremony will conclude with the unveiling of a memorial plaque and refreshments.

Lake Tahoe Dam, part of Reclamation’s Newlands Project, was constructed to control the top 6 feet of Lake Tahoe, equivalent to 732,000 acre-feet of water. The dam is operated to release water from Lake Tahoe to supplement flows in the Truckee River.

In 1981, the dam was listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

Animal Coalition of Tahoe is having a fundraiser at Chevy’s in South Lake Tahoe on Sept. 10 from 6-8pm.

Chevy’s will have a taco bar, complete with meats, cheese, rice, beans, all the other fixings, and of course their chips and salsa, for $10 per person.

Animal Coalition of Tahoe is an all-volunteer, nonprofit corporation that sponsors several fundraisers each year to support low-cost spay-neuter program for South Lake Tahoe residents. ACT donates 10 percent of all funds raised to the El Dorado County Animal Shelter in Meyers.

• The 21st annual Great Lake Tahoe Sternwheeler Race between California’s Tahoe Queen and Nevada’s M.S. Dixie II is Aug. 31 at 10am.

• Rubicon Trail users on Aug. 29 will experience temporary delays in accessing the trail in the area of the rest stop at Ellis Creek because of work on the Ellis Creek Bridge.

• The Landing Resort & Spa in South Lake Tahoe is having open houses Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 from 8am-3pm. The hotel is located at 4104 Lakeshore Blvd.

The Nevada Division of State Parks has a amount number of firewood available for public purchase. Approximately 50 permits will go on sale Sept. 14.

The sale starts at 8am on the 1st floor of the Richard H. Bryan state office building, located at 901 South Stewart St. in Carson City. Permits are $50 per cord, cash or check only, limit one cord per address/family. The sale will end once all permits are sold.

Purchased wood may be picked up from Sept. 20-22 at the North Canyon area near Spooner Lake. A map will be provided with the permit. The wood is a mixture of pine and fir, some seasoned and some green. Most of the wood is approximately 18 inches with some odd sized and large rounds interspersed.

Access into North Canyon requires navigation through areas of loose, sandy soils. Four-wheel drive or heavy duty two-wheel drive vehicles are strongly recommended. Trailers may be permitted at the discretion of state parks personnel. Trailers deemed unsafe by park staff must be left at the staging area.

The Truckee River Winery is hosting a River Talk for people to learn more about the work the Truckee River Watershed Council does.

The River Talk is a one hour virtual tour of a few of council’s projects and core programs. It’s a way to learn about TRWC’s work to protect, enhance, and restore the watershed, as well as different ways individuals can get involved.

It is also an opportunity for guests to ask questions and share comments and feedback.

The event is Sept. 19. Wine and appetizers are from 5-6pm and the talk from 6-7pm. The cost is $10, which includes one glass of wine.

The Placer County Fish and Game Commission is soliciting grant proposals from nonprofit organizations, schools, other organizations and individuals. Recipients must use the money for education, habitat improvement, or enforcement activities related to Placer County’s fish and wildlife.

The maximum award amount of any single grant is $1,000.

The deadline to submit grant applications is Oct. 12.

This is possibly the oldest continuing, uninterrupted gas station in South Lake Tahoe.

According to notes on the back of this photo dated 1954, Allen E. “Brownie” Piedmont was the owner of this Flying A gas station.

The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society is commemorating Tahoe City’s Sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) during Labor Day weekend.

On Aug. 30 at 4pm there will be a reception at the Watson Cabin at Heritage Plaza. The North Lake Tahoe Historical Society is partnering with event hosts Tahoe City Rotary and the Tahoe City Public Utilities District to welcome the descendants of Tahoe pioneer families and visitors. The event will include an unveiling of a street exhibit about Tahoe City history, featuring panels with photos and information about Tahoe City from 1863 to today.
