The annual Tahoe Geotourism Expo is designed to showcase the treasures of Tahoe.
Activities throughout the region include native ceremonies, drumming dancing to physical challenges, water yoga, nature and wildlife tours, historical enactments, hand-crafted music, interactive adventures, native twinning and beading, sand castles crawls and fitness classes.

Six restaurants and six bands go head-to-head in the Guitar Strings vs. Chicken Wings contest Sept. 6 at Squaw Valley.
The 6-10pm event in the village benefits the Tahoe Institute for Natural Sciences.
Each restaurant will be cooking their signature recipes for spicy, flavor-packed chicken wings, while the region’s best bands do their thing.
Entry is a $5 donation to enjoy the wing and drink specials, as well as the opportunity to pick the the winners. Restaurants will battle for the Wing vs. Wing Champion Trophy as well as Wing and Band Best Pairing. Bands will be battling for their own prize.
California Tahoe Conservancy is hosting Doggie Day at Cove East Beach on Sept. 3.
The free event is from 11:30am-2:30pm.
Trail access to Cove East beach begins at the end of Venice Drive near Tahoe Keys Marina.
There will be games, education and dog competitions. Pet owners can learn about the Conservancy’s lands and will be given an opportunity to hone their pet etiquette skills.
Lake Valley Fire Protection District is putting on a contractors workshop Sept. 9 for individuals wanting to participate in the Hazardous Wood Roof Replacement Grant.

The grant covers eligible homes in the Lake Valley and Meeks Bay fire protection districts.
The Hazardous Wood Roof Replacement Grant program is designed to encourage homeowner’s with hazardous wood roofs to replace them with a full Class A Assembly, non-combustible, non-wood roof.
Participation in the workshop is required for contractors who want to be on the list that will be given to homeowners currently approved for roof replacement.

• The Tahoe Donner Golf Course was mentioned in the article Best 18 Holes of the High Sierra in the August issue of California Golf News. Out of 18 holes mentioned, three holes (1, 8 and 18) at Tahoe Donner were mentioned – the most holes of any golf course in the article.
• Tahoe Cross Country has started a junior mountain bike program.

Liberty Utilities is warning the public that individuals claiming to represent Liberty and demanding payment over the phone have been reported by its customers.
Liberty Utilities representatives do not place calls to customers for payment.

The California Highway Patrol, South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on Aug. 30 on Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe.

Nevada Highway Patrol is warning people officers will be out in force during the Labor Day weekend making sure impaired drivers are removed from the road.
Last year’s joining forces enforcement over the Labor Day holiday resulted in 4,227 stops with 128 DUI arrests.
Christa Peterson, a nationally certified expert QuickBooks instructor will be teaching a three-part course in September.
Beginning QuickBooks – Part One is Sept. 4 from 2-5pm. Beginning QuickBooks – Part Two: Data Entry is Sept. 11 from 2-5pm. Quick Books – Part Three: Putting it to Use is Sept. 18 from 2-5pm.
The courses will be at Lake Tahoe Community College in Room D121. They are $49 each or $120 for all three.
