Liberty Utilities’ customers in the Kings Beach area have experienced outages on and off since Nov. 9 because of NV Energy’s equipment failure in the Incline Village area. 

Liberty is taking service from NV Energy’s feed to the Kings Beach area while its Brockway substation is shut down for repairs. Those repairs are on schedule to be done by Tuesday evening, at which time Liberty plans to switch back to Brockway sub for those customers.

Also, Nov. 13-17 is Utility Scam Awareness Week. Last week, two commercial customers contacted Liberty’s office to report scam attempts.

·      U.S. News & World Report has Lake Tahoe in the top five for best small towns to visit in the U.S.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness is putting on a free four-hour seminar for family and friends on Nov. 15 from 5-9pm at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Participants will learn about diagnosis, treatment, recovery, communication strategies, crisis preparation and NAMI resources.

Seminar leaders are family members who know what it’s like to have a loved one with mental health condition.

With the rainy-snowy season here, South Lake Tahoe is reminding residents that sand bags are available at no cost year round.

Sand and sand bags are available at the city’s public works yard located at 1160 Rufus Allen Blvd. as well as South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Station No. 3 at 2101 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Residents fill their own bags and transport back to their own residence. Try to limit the number of bags to 10 per visit.

Sierra-at-Tahoe’s Pray for Snow Party on Nov. 18 will be a dance fest of sorts.

Due to noise curfews the music will be pumped through distributed wireless headphones instead of the speakers.

Extra emphasis will be put on the snow dance this year.

The free silent disco and movie night will go from 5-10pm at Lake Tahoe AleWorX in South Lake Tahoe. All ages welcome.
