The Coldstream PC-1 draft EIR is being recirculated for an additional 45 days to address new impacts in biological and natural resources and historic and cultural resources.

Since circulation of the original draft EIR, the project applicant has made minor refinements to the design of the project and two new technical studies have been prepared as part of the permitting process for the project. These studies resulted in the availability of new technical information, including a new wetland delineation for off-site portions of the project and an updated archaeological inventory survey for the project site. The updated archaeological inventory survey includes identification of one prehistoric site which was inadvertently overlooked in previous cultural resource surveys prepared for the specific plan. The updated survey describes the site in detail and provides a Historic Properties Treatment Plan.

Applications for federal historic preservation grants administered by the Nevada Historic Preservation Office will be accepted until Dec. 6 at 5pm.

Grant funding is provided by the National Park Service as part of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, and is used to support the preservation efforts of government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Grants may be used to support building rehabilitation, historic preservation surveys and projects that promote heritage tourism throughout the state.

Priorities for the 2014 funding cycle include surveys and National Register nominations for mid-20th century architectural resources and for threatened historic and prehistoric archaeological resources.

The Preservation Office encourages first time applications from local governments and nonprofit organizations, particularly those from rural communities.

Notice the sign’s vertical notation Open All Year. This was in the early 1950s era when most Lake Tahoe resorts and casinos closed after Labor Day until the next Memorial Day.

Later, this location became the Casino De Paris (1952-54) and lastly Oliver’s Club until 1963. Oliver Kahle (rhymes with mail) eventually saw that property become today’s Douglas County Administrative Center shortly before his death in the late 1980s.

Today, his name adorns Kahle Drive, Kahle Park, Oliver Park GID, and the Kahle Community Center.

The Placer County Board of Supervisors will meet in North Lake Tahoe Oct. 21-22.

During Tuesday’s session, the board will consider authorizing Chairman Jim Holmes to sign two letters to Gov. Jerry Brown that detail Placer County’s concerns about the proposed Bay Delta Conservation Plan and will receive an update on proposed improvements to Fanny Bridge and the nearby intersection of highways 28 and 89.

Monday’s agenda features a grand-opening celebration for the Domus Development Project at 2pn at 204 Chipmunk St. in Kings Beach; and a ribbon-cutting and tour of the Community House at 3:30pm at 265 Bear St. in Kings Beach.

On Tuesday, the board will convene its meeting at 9am in the North Tahoe Events Center, 8318 North Lake Blvd. in Kings Beach.

Tuesday’s meeting will conclude with a tour of the Museum of Sierra Ski History and 1960 Winter Olympics. The museum is located in the Boatworks Mall, 760 N. Lake Blvd. in Tahoe City.

People may turn in their unused prescription drugs in South Lake Tahoe on Oct. 26 from 10am-2pm.

Bring medications for disposal to Safeway at 1020 Johnson Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. The service is free and anonymous.

Last April, people in the U.S. turned in 371 tons of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and its thousands of state and local law enforcement partners.

Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.

Flushing meds down the toilet or throwing them in the trash pose potential safety and health hazards.

South Lake Tahoe has a new millionaire.

A woman in her 30s, who wants to be anonymous, won $1.4 million at MontBleu in Stateline on Oct. 16.

This is the largest single win in the resort’s seven-year history.

The winner hit the big payload on the IGT Wheel of Fortune progressive slot for a total of $1,407,656.68 in the High Limit Room. The winner played $100 before hitting the jackpot.
