The Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce it putting on the 7-8:30am event at the Truckee Tahoe Airport.
Eric Brown with Castle Peak Ventures and Megan Michelson with Tahoe Mill Collective are the speakers. Steve Frisch with Sierra Business Council will moderate.

For the third winter, Alpine Smith of South Lake Tahoe is providing free snow removal services for military families with a spouse or family member currently deployed in the Armed Forces.
SnowCare for Troops is a national program underwritten by The Boss Snowplow.

The community may get involved by loaning snow removal equipment to volunteers or groups, and donating money, transportation or gas cards to offset snow removal and maintenance costs.

The black and white photo is hand-captioned “Engine #2 Along the Truckee River 1911.” Southern Pacific replaced the original narrow-gauge rails with standard gauge in 1926.
Those rails were removed permanently in 1942 for scrap iron needed during World War II.
The color photo shows today’s bicycle path on that historic rail bed, running along Highway 89 near Tahoe City.
The two (blurry) sepia tone images are single movie frames from a 16mm travelogue filmed in 1930 (Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum). The train would loop near Tahoe Tavern, meet the steamers Tahoe and Nevada on a pier at Tahoe City, and then make the 1-hour, 15-minute return trip to Truckee.

Truckee officials are considering raising the sales tax by one-quarter cent. The money would be used to construct and maintain trails.
There will be a town hall meeting Jan. 7 at 5:30pm at Truckee Town Hall.
Officials would like to put the question to voters on the June ballot.
The town council will discuss the issue at the Jan. 14 meeting.

• The International Association of Firefighters Association Local No. 2139 North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District recently purchased pet oxygen masks. These specially designed masks can be used on conscious pets suffering from smoke inhalation and pets that need to be resuscitated after losing consciousness from exposure to toxic fumes.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals’ is putting on a workshop Jan. 15 titled New Year, New Resume.
TRYP member Megan Arneson, a business coach and strategist, will talk about what to put on a resume and how to structure it.
The event is from 5:30-6:30pm at Blue Angel Cafe, 1132 Ski Run Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. It is free to TRYP members, $10 for others.

• Sugar Bowl signed a 25-year lease with the Truckee Donner Land Trust to operate Royal Gorge.
• People may ski or ride for free with Jonny Moseley at Squaw Valley on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30 from 10am-noon and at Alpine from 2-4pm. Squaw tours will meet at the Gold Coast Demo Center. Tours at Alpine Meadows will meet at the bottom of Summit Express.
• Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority is asking tourists to take a survey about paid parking.
• This is the inaugural year for Squaw to shoot off fireworks on New Year’s Eve. They will light up the sky at 7pm, right after the 6:30pm torchlight parade.
• Roberta Mason is now president of Lake Tahoe Community College’s board of education.
• Former Lake Tahoe Unified School District Superintendent Rich Fischer has been appointed to fill the seat on the El Dorado County board of education that was vacated by Gene Rasmussen.
• Robert Silk is Barton Health’s newest radiologist.
• Lake Tahoe is at its lowest level in three years, but still 9 inches above the natural rim.
• California State Controller John Chiang has updated the public employee compensation website with wage and benefit data for California city and county employees that covers 2012. The site has maps, search functions and custom report-building tools.
• The Emergency Medical Services Agency and Public Health Preparedness program of the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency have moved to 2900 Fair Lane Court in Placerville. The move is expected to save the $40,000 per year in lease costs. Phone numbers will remain the same.
