People will be taking to the water at 356 Ala Wai. Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe at noon that Sunday. Registration and check in is from 10-11:30am.

Josh Kornbeck, youth of the year for Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club, will vie for the California Youth of the Year title and a $1,000 college scholarship from Tupperware Brands Corporation.

The 16-year-old was selected for his sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.

Being named youth of the year is the highest honor a Boys and Girls Club member may receive.

Kornbeck is often volunteering and raising money for the club. He has been a member of the club for nine years.

The sixth annual Cowboy Mardi Gras fundraiser to benefit Austin’s House is Feb. 28 at the Carson Valley Inn from 6-10pm.

The atmosphere will be of Bourbon Street in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday. This casual fundraiser features food, music, dancing, games, raffle prizes, and silent auction.

The party starts at 6pm with a cocktail hour, then a barbecue buffet dinner featuring tri-tip beef, pulled pork and mesquite rubbed chicken with all the trimmings. Beer, wine and cocktails are also available.

After dinner, the Cowboy Mardi Gras party hits full stride with music, dancing and games.

BloodSource will be conducting a blood drive in South Lake Tahoe on Feb. 3 from noon-6pm.

Walk-ins are welcome. Blood drive participants will receive a parking validation for Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel parking lot at the blood drive check in.

The blood drive is sponsored by the Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be at least 17 years old (16 with a signed BloodSource Parental consent form) and be generally healthy. There is no upper age limit for blood donations. Donors must bring a photo ID and should drink plenty of fluids before donating.

The future of Lake Tahoe Airport will be discussed Feb. 13 at 5:30pm at the South Lake Tahoe facility.

C&S Companies is developing, reviewing and creating an airport master plan to address the airport’s needs.

The meeting will include a presentation of the master plan process and a description of how the public can provide input on the airport’s future use. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to visit various stations focused on specific aspects of the master plan, and talk with city staff and the planning team.

When available, a draft of the Airport Master Plan will be online.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency in its role as the Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization has $600,000 in grant money to dole out.

The On Our Way Community Grant Program is designed to help Lake Tahoe organizations and local governments improve walking and biking or support economic vitality.

Up to a maximum of $200,000 will be given per request.

The On Our Way grants are part of the Lake Tahoe Sustainable Communities Program which lays out strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through projects like pedestrian and bike trails that provide alternatives to auto transportation, and that also improve economic and community well-being.

Proposals are due March 14. Details are available online.

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is accepting nominations for the 24th annual Best in the Basin awards.

Projects completed between Oct. 12, 2012, and Dec. 31, 2013, may be nominated.

This is a new schedule for the awards program to allow judges to tour project sites in better weather conditions.

Nominations are due March 28.
