Bert’s Café is hosting a spaghetti night fundraiser for Tahoe Arts Project on May 8 from 5:30-7:30pm.

For $10, guests may dine on spaghetti, Caesar salad, garlic bread, soda and coffee. Wine will be served by donation. Dessert involves a bake sale.

Servers for the evening will be TAP board members and volunteers.

Purchase tickets in advance at Bert’s Café, Sessions Salon and from TAP board members. Tickets will also be available at the door and take out is also offered.

Bert’s Café is located at 1146 Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe.

The new bicycle-walking path between Elks Point Road at Nevada Beach and Round Hill Pines Resort passes directly through these views.

Round Hill Pines is under new management this year, and these historic buildings (plus the several others outside these photos) are undergoing restoration/renovation, starting with roofs replacement.

I’m told that key scenes from the 1990 movie “Misery” starring James Caan and Kathy Bates were filmed here at Round Hill Pines and in Genoa.

• Freedom Day came six days later than last year. Tax Freedom Day, calculated annually by the Tax Foundation, is the day Americans have earned enough money to pay their annual tax obligations at the federal, state and local levels. This year’s national Tax Freedom Day was April 21.

• South Tahoe Association of Realtors contributed almost $1,000 to purchase individual Easter baskets that were donated to Live Violence Free and the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center.

• California drought – How will we be affected in Truckee-Tahoe? is the subject of the May 13 Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce meeting. The meeting is from 7-8:30am at the Truckee airport. The 11th annual Truckee Day townwide street clean up and community block party is June 7.

Check in stations will open at 8am. Get there early to get materials, volunteer T-shirt, and free lunch ticket. Preregistration is not required.

After the street clean up, volunteers will head to Truckee Regional Park for a townwide block party and Community Expo with music and a free barbecue lunch for every volunteer from noon-2pm.

The Douglas County Public Library’s spring book sale is May 16 from 3-8pm, May 17 from 9am-5pm and May 18 from 9am-2pm.

The sale will be at the C.V.I.C. Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden.

Thousands of used books and audio books will be for sale; DVDs and music CDs will also be available. Friends of the Douglas County Public Library and anyone who joins during the sale will receive a 15 percent discount.

Highway 50 on May 4 will be closed in both directions from El Dorado Hills Boulevard/Latrobe Road to Bass Lake Road for blasting work.

The closure is scheduled from 6-8am. During this time traffic will be routed through Serrano Parkway. Motorists traveling east from El Dorado Hills will detour on El Dorado Hills Boulevard to Serrano Parkway to Bass Lake Road. Motorists traveling west from Cameron Park will take Bass Lake Road to Serrano Parkway to El Dorado Hills Boulevard.

The work is part of a $57 million El Dorado County multi-phase project to build a new Highway 50 interchange at Silva Valley Parkway.

Former consultant to NASA, Kevin Manning, will talk about astronomy May 6 at 6pm in South Lake Tahoe.

This is part of the Star Tour USA 2014: Promoting Scientific Literacy from Coast to Coast features Astronomy for Everyone: Size & Scale of the Universe.

This program is for all ages. It’s about the universe, from the very small to the very large.

The slide presentation and question and answer session will be followed by going outdoors to view celestial objects in the night sky through a powerful custom-designed telescope; such as the rings of Saturn and craters on the moon.

The free event is at the South Lake Tahoe Library on Rufus Allen Boulevard.

• The little cub being taken care of at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care now weighs 7.7 pounds. She arrived April 15 weighing 5 pounds, 6 ounces.
