Tahoe Regional Young Professionals has two networking mixers this month.

The South Shore mixer will be Feb. 13 at Outpost Brewery inside Basecamp Hotel from 6-9pm. The North Shore one is Feb. 20 at The Local in Incline Village from 5:30-8:30pm.

All members of the community are invited to attend these events, regardless of age. They are free for members, $10 for others.

The South shore one will have a Mardi Gras theme that will include Southern inspired appetizers. Those who attend wearing a mask will receive an additional raffle ticket. Do not bring any glitter including any that may fall off a mask or costume.

·      At the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science’s annual eagle count in January the tally was 16 adults and six immatures.

·      Carson’s Got Talent is having auditions for the April 14 show at Forever Dance in Carson City on Feb. 11. Check in is at 9am, auditions begin at 10am. For more details, go online.

·      Sugar Bowl Resort is introducing the Hump Day Hump on Feb. 28, March 21 and April 4. The cost to participate is $10 per person. El Dorado County’s Feb. 1 meeting on vacation home rentals is now starting at 5:30pm.

The 30-minute change before the Board of Supervisors convene will be an opportunity for people to use colored dots to signify what they believe are the benefits and problems associated with VHRs. Plus, there will be comment areas.

According to county spokeswoman Carla Hass, the dots will give supervisors an indication of what people are thinking before they hear from them.

The public will also have the opportunity to address the electeds about the issue.

The actual board meeting starts at 6pm at Lake Tahoe Airport. VHRs is the only item on the agenda.

South Tahoe Fire Rescue is accepting applications for the next South Tahoe Action Team.

Classes begin Feb 5, and continue for the next three Mondays. Each of the four sessions starts at 5:30pm at the South Tahoe Fire Rescue Training Center located at 1100 Lyons Ave..

Curriculum will include instruction taught by members of the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

STAT team members will be expected to commit their time and will be called upon in times of natural disaster, large scale emergencies and times of need in the South Lake Tahoe area. Due to staffing and equipment limitations, the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department will be reliant on local citizens’ abilities to assist in their neighborhoods with basic first aid and triage. STAT team members to be well versed in command structure, emergency first aid, lifting/moving techniques, use of extinguishers, flood safety and building collapse.

The California Natural Resources Agency is proposing to update guidelines for implementing the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), including new regulations that will streamline review of projects that are designed to improve air quality and public health.

Public comment on the proposal is due by 5pm March 15.

Proposed changes to the CEQA guidelines address nearly every step in the environmental review process to improve efficiency and better protect natural resources. The regulations align CEQA rules with other state environmental policies and goals, including reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

From Feb. 1-15, drivers in Northern Nevada can expect to see double or even triple the normal law enforcement presence.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has joined forces with law enforcement agencies statewide to crack down on impaired driving

According to the NHP, “Impaired driving not only puts your life and the lives of others in danger, the cost of driving under the influence is high. The average estimated cost of a DUI when legal fees, court fines and higher insurance rates are considered is over $10,000.”

The enforcement will be in Washoe, Carson, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.
