El Dorado County is looking for nominations for senior of the year awards.
Nominees must be 60 or older, reside in the county, with active community volunteer service within the last two years.

The award will be presented by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on May 22 in Placerville.
· El Dorado County CAO Don Ashton will be hosting a community round table on Feb. 8, 5:30-7pm at the Cameron Park Library.
· Douglas County Public Library in Minden will be closed Feb. 19.
· The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe recently brought pets to local high schools to act as therapy dogs and help ease the tension and stress of midterm exams. Students at Truckee High School and North Tahoe High School had the opportunity to take a break from studying and test taking to pet and play with the shelter dogs.
· The Tahoe Arts Alliance and South Lake Tahoe have partnered in showcasing local artists at City Hall. Installations rotate on a quarterly basis and gallery space consists of several walls in the lobby of City Hall. Submit proposals by Feb. 16 to info@tahoeartsalliance.org.
· There will be a comedy show Feb. 18 at MontBleu featuring comedian-impersonator Reggie Brown as Barack Obama and comedian-impersonator Bob DiBuono at Donald Trump. Show is at 8pm, doors open at 7pm. Tickets are $30, plus taxes and fees.
El Dorado County Board of Supervisors vacation home rental ad hoc committee will meet Feb. 12 from 1:30-3:30pm at the California Conservation Corps in Meyers.
Supervisors Sue Novasel and Mike Ranalli are the committee members. They are gathering input and will eventually make a recommendation to the full board about changes to the VHR ordinance.
The full board is expected to review the topic on March 3. The time and location have not been determined. The county is looking at 1pm. This will be a continuation of the meeting from last week that was canceled because of overcrowding.
· The Mormon Emigrant Trail is closed for the winter to vehicles.
· There will be a free radon presentation Feb. 21, 6pm at IVGID public works at 1220 Sweetwater Road, Incline Village. Free radon test kits are available to Nevada residents through Feb. 28 at the Incline Village Recreation Center while supplies last.
· El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini will be the guest speaker at the El Dorado County State of Jefferson Committee meeting Feb. 13. It will be at the American Legion Hall, 4561 Greenstone Road in Placerville. Doors open at 5:30pm with a taco bar. The meeting kicks off at 6:30pm.
· Truckee EAA chapter has a pancake breakfast and offers free Young Eagle airplane rides for kids 8-17 on the second Saturday every month starting at 8am. The next one is this Saturday. RSVP to yecoord1073@outlook.com.
· The Feb. 7, 3-8pm burger event at Red Hut Cafe on Ski Run Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe will raise money for Whittell High School basketball and ski teams, and cheer squad. For $10 people get a burger, homemade chips and soft drink.
The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office is seeking public involvement in the development of a new Comprehensive Statewide Historic Preservation Plan that will identify goals that federal, state, and local governments should accomplish in the coming years.
Every eight years, SHPO is required to produce a new statewide preservation plan to guide those efforts.
Public input will help the office better understand the needs and desires of Nevadans on preservation issues, and help establish priorities and goals for SHPO, its partners, and the State’s heritage preservation community.
The current plan, which expires December 2019, can be found online.
The public is invited to take an online survey that will be available until May 31.
· El Dorado County supervisors in January reappointed County Counsel Mike Ciccozzi to another four-year term.
· Veteran El Dorado County prosecutor Trish Kelliher will launch her campaign for El Dorado County district attorney at noon Feb. 10 at the Placerville Town Hall.

Each month South Lake Tahoe Mayor Wendy David will be hosting “conversations” with anyone who wants to attend.
These are informal gatherings that give the public an opportunity to ask questions and for there to be a dialogue.
David plans to bring a guest each time. At the Feb. 21 gathering Councilmember Brooke Laine will join her.
The “conversation” will begin at 9am at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center.

The Tahoe Women’s Community Fund will be granting $68,000 to the South Shore Community this spring, which is more than double was awarded a year ago.
Applications are due by 5pm on Feb. 26. Grant recipients will be announced April 2.

The California Highway Patrol is teaming up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to remind motorists to designate a sober driver before the Super Bowl begins.
According to data from the CHP’s Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System, during last year’s Super Bowl, one person was killed in an alcohol-involved collision and 41 others were injured on California’s roads. That same day, there were 247 arrests made by the CHP for driving under the influence.
Officers say to leave your car keys at home if you will be consuming alcoholic beverages, use public transportation, a designated driver, or a ride-hailing service to stay safe.
The public can help by calling 911 if they suspect a drunken driver.
