There will be a South Lake Tahoe recreation complex renovation workshop Nov. 18 at the center.

The Parks Trails and Recreation Master Plan has identified this site for future renovation. The community is being asked to share ideas.

The complex is located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

The workshop starts at 7pm.

• South Tahoe High School’s varsity boys cross country team took third place at the regional championships Oct. 31 and the girls took fourth. The boys team and three individual STHS girls will be headed to Las Vegas next weekend for the state championship.

• The comedy-thriller “Meet the Blacks” is being filmed in Placerville. The movie is scheduled for release in 2015.

Barton Hospice’s  Reflections of Life and Loss grief support group meets the first and third Thursday of each month. Time varies so call ahead — 530.543.5581.

Barton Hospice encourages people who have experienced the loss of a loved one or have endured a significant, life-altering event to attend the ongoing bereavement group. This group helps teach attendees how to cope with certain situations and encourages emotional connections with others.

Support and bereavement groups allow people to release emotions they may otherwise keep to themselves. It can improve a participant’s mood and decrease psychological distress.

Douglas County commissioners again are going to take up the topic of water rates on Dec. 18 at their 1:30pm meeting in Stateline.

The public hearing will be to discuss changes to the monthly rates for the Skyland Water System and Cave Rock/Uppaway Water System.

The water rates for both Lake Tahoe water agencies were last changed in 2010. New rates are expected to take effect Jan. 1.

Connection fees and private fire service charges are also proposed to increase.

Geoff Schladow, director of Tahoe Environmental Research Center, will give two presentations this month about what is going on beneath Tahoe’s surface.

The first is Nov. 5 at the North Tahoe Events Center in Kings Beach; the other is Nov. 6 at the Elks Point Fire Station in Round Hill. Both are from 6-7:30pm.

Schladow will share insights into Tahoe’s circulation pattern research, results of the NDEP-Tahoe Water Suppliers Association 2014 Risk Assessment Report, and water resource management implications.

• Smokey Bear and the Tallac Hotshots teamed up with South Lake Tahoe Cub Scout Pack 592 to teach them about campfire safety.

The 44th annual Barton Auxiliary Holiday Faire is Nov. 9.

Barton Auxiliary volunteers and employees from the Attic, Barton’s thrift store, have selected their favorite holiday and winter donations to sell. Items available for purchase will include jewelry, crystal, antiques and collectibles, holiday decorations, winter wear, vintage dolls, purses, and other gift items.

The faire will take place between 9am-3pm at the St. Theresa Grace Hall on the corner of Lyons Avenue and Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe. Santa Claus will make a guest appearance between 10am and 2pm. Lunch, bake sale items, and Barton’s famous cheese balls will also be available for purchase.

All proceeds benefit Barton Memorial Hospital.

Sierra-at-Tahoe is taking it to the court on Nov. 13 for the third annual Sierra Snowball Fight: A Dodgeball Tournament at Steamers Bar and Grill in South Lake Tahoe.

The party starts at 7pm; all ages are welcome. Grand prize for the winning dodgeball team is worth more than $1,000. Individual awards for MVP, Best Smash and Best Threads will be handed out.

The Cash Only Band will be playing inside, while DJ MoFunk will be on the back deck.
