For the third year in a row, the Kiwanis Club of the Carson Valley is organizing a concert to raise money for local causes.

Welcome All Veterans Everywhere, and the Douglas County Community and Senior Center will be the beneficiaries of the Feb. 21 event at the senior center on 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

The Soar Like an Eagle benefit concert is in conjunction with the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual Eagles and Agriculture week. Woodie and the Longboards will be playing a mix of classic Eagles tunes and surf music.

There is a new scam being reported by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department. Residents are getting calls from people saying they have been chosen to receive a grant for paying their taxes on time or for not having filed bankruptcy.

Fraudsters are instructing people to call and give the operator a “Grant Authorization Number,” then the scammers ask for the person’s checking account number so they can deposit the grant — and siphon your money.

Deputies suggest hanging up on the person and contacting local police.

Citizens Climate Lobby is hosting two meetings in South Lake Tahoe.

The first is Jan. 31 at 10am. The one-hour talk is for organizers to talk about CCL and then come up with a plan for how Tahoe can help.

The second meeting is Feb. 7 at 10am. It will start with the “First Saturday of the Month Chapter Phone Call” and then an hour to further organize the Tahoe group.

Both meetings are at Lake Tahoe Community College in the dining area.

Sugar Bowl it one six wedding venues in the Sacramento/Lake Tahoe/Reno area to claim the distinction. The Knot is the nation’s most visited wedding website.

Three El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department employees will have their swearing in ceremony at South Lake Tahoe on Feb. 17.

Mike Yarbrough will be a sergeant, Matt Underhill lieutenant, and Randy Peshon undersheriff. Peshon replaces retiring Rich Williams. All three have strong ties to the South Shore.

El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Suzanne Kingsbury will preside over the 4pm ceremony.

Tahoe-Douglas Rotary will be honoring local police and firefighters at its annual St Patrick’s Day fundraiser on March 31.

The First Responder Community Hero Awards will honor one person from each of the following agencies: Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department. A significant donation will made to a
local nonprofit for the first responder’s service.

The 47th annual St Patrick’s Celebration will be from 6-10pm at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe. It will include a traditional Irish buffet and wine bar. A limited number of tickets are available for $75 each (reserved tables of 10 may be purchased for $600 until
