Truckee is looking for feedback regarding curbside yard waste collection.

Currently, residents may set out four bags per week for yard waste collection. Truckee and Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal are considering recommending changing the program to incorporate the use of 96-gallon rolling carts instead of the green bags.

The proposed change may be before the Town Council in March. If approved, carts could be phased in over two years with Tahoe Donner and Glenshire transitioning to carts beginning in May. The remaining neighborhoods would begin the cart service in 2016.

Concurrently with the 96-gallon cart program the Truckee will continue to offer free drop-off at Eastern Regional Landfill and reduced cost yard-waste-only dumpsters.

One bore of the Cave Rock tunnel will be closed Feb. 11 between 6:30am and 2pm so officials can stabilize the rocks.

A rock slide on Saturday temporarily closed the road. Boulders, some 6-feet-wide, had to be removed.

On Wednesday, the westbound lanes of Highway 50 will be closed. Traffic will alternate between using the eastbound lanes. Thirty-minute delays are likely.

The approximately $7,000 in emergency repairs will remove potentially loose rocks from the roadside slope near the westbound Cave Rock tunnel entrance, officials said.

The Business Association Chamber Collaborative in conjunction with the North Lake Tahoe Chamber/CVB/Resort Association launched the Show Your Love-Shop Local this January. The year-round campaign supports local businesses and the economy in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee.

It comes on the heels of a successful Shop Local Holiday Contest that gathered $407,476 in local revenue.

The goal of the North Tahoe Truckee Shop Local branding and awareness campaign is to stimulate the local economy and promote shopping locally to help grow business volume year-round. The program is designed to keep dollars in the local economy, reduce the carbon footprint of traveling to shop, protect local character, and support friends and neighbors. Money spent at local businesses recirculates through wages and taxes, benefiting the economic health of the entire community.

A shop local starter kit is $15, which includes a Shop Local window decal, 10 Shop Local love stickers, explanatory postcards, a plastic display holder, and a listing on the Shop North Tahoe Truckee website.

Respect Gets Respect – Prevent Sexual Harassment and Bullying is the topic of a Feb. 24 workshop in Truckee.

North Lake Tahoe and Truckee Donner Chambers of Commerce, and Sierra Human Resources Association is putting on the anti-bullying, sexual harassment seminar. It is from 9-11am at Truckee Tahoe Airport Community Room, 10356 Truckee Airport Road.

The requirement to provide anti-bullying training for supervisors and managers was added to AB1825 sexual harassment prevention training as of Jan. 1. This workshop will bring businesses into compliance and help business owners and leaders prevent and address “abusive or malicious conduct” that a reasonable person would find hostile or offensive, including repeated infliction of derogatory remarks and insults, threatening, intimidating or humiliating verbal or physical conduct and the sabotaging or undermining of work performance.

This interactive workshop will also cover the core skills of recognizing and stopping sexual harassment. Workshop speaker Laura Moriarty, president of Tahoe Training Partners, is a nationally known speaker and the architect of innovative learning environments at high profile organizations.

Known originally as The Great Road, then Lincoln Highway, and now as Highway 50, one of its biggest challenges was getting around Cave Rock on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada shoreline.

A second tunnel was completed in 1957  to accommodate the new four-lane Highway 50 between Carson City and Stateline, with the original tunnel serving the westbound traffic lanes.
