“Fed Up” is a film about the food industry from Katie Couric, Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of “An Inconvenient Truth”) and director Stephanie Soechtig.

It will be shown March 24 in Truckee at the North Tahoe High School auditorium at 5:30pm.

Soup, pizza and salad provided by Food Services will be available in the dining commons at 5pm for $5. Bring your own bowl for the soup.

Following the film, a panel of community experts will answer questions and with the goal of helping to make an easy transition to more healthful eating at home and in schools.

The second annual Celebrity Comedy Night benefiting the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is March 21.

Tickets are $25. All proceeds benefit the HSTT, which provides care to Truckee and North Lake Tahoe’s homeless pets.

Headliners Rocky LaPorte and Mike Pace will provide an evening of laughs at the Community Arts Center, 10046 Church St., Truckee.

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe has become the driving force of animal rescue and adoption for the Truckee-North Lake Tahoe area. In the last decade it has evolved to a nationally recognized nonprofit organization with six employees and hundreds of dedicated volunteers, offering a variety of services and programs, including adoption days, fostering, public education, pet-assisted therapy, and community spay and neuter programs.

Serena Caplins, a doctorate student at the UC Davis studying population biology, will present From Summits to Seas: Understanding Evolution through the Study of Butterflies and Ribbon Worms on March 12 at 6pm at Lake Tahoe Community College.

She will explore how a variety of techniques and disciplines, including genetics and ecology, are used by evolutionary biologists in their efforts to describe and understand animal diversity.

The Truckee Police Department is submitting a preliminary off-highway vehicle grant applications to the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division for the funding to create and maintain an OHV program.

The money would be used for enforcement and education related funding.

The application is available online for public review and comment until April 6. Public comments need to be submitted to both the Truckee Police Department and the OHMVR, instructions on how to comment are on the OHMVR’s website under “Public Review Instructions.”

• North Tahoe Public Utility District’s Pancake Breakfast on March 7 is going to the dogs at the North Tahoe Event Center. Breakfast is from 8:30-10:30am during the Dressed Up Dogs parade before the Kings Beach SnowFest Parade. Proceeds go to the Tahoe Unleashed Dog Park being planned in the North Tahoe Regional Park.
