·  Thomas Cook Airlines won’t be flying nonstop between London and Reno. The airline cited staffing at Custom’s in Reno being the reason.

·  The Community College League of California honored Lake Tahoe Community College Trustee Fritz Wenck. He was the only trustee to be recognized for four decades of service.

TTC&P — the Tahoe,Trout Creek & Pacific Railroad — was a narrow-gauge endeavor in South Lake Tahoe, existing only from 1970 to 1971.

Its short-lived route traversed the Trout Creek meadow from the corner next to where now stands U.S. Bank and then went toward the South Tahoe Public Utility District treatment plant.

High blood pressure is the topic of Barton Health’s June 4 lecture.

Steve Brooks with Barton Family Practice will talk about preventing high blood pressure and understanding the scope of the problem, causes of high blood pressure, and treatment options.

· Tahoe Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe is promoting its private beach on Facebook. They own it, but the reality is the public may access it from June-September. Connolly Beach, the real name of it, will be on the May 19 South Lake Tahoe City Council agenda.

· Govs. Jerry Brown and Brian Sandoval along with five other governors on May 6 signed a multi-state proclamation designating May as Wildfire Awareness Month.

· Mammoth Mountain ski slopes close Sunday.

Motorists will need additional time when traveling on eastbound Interstate 80 under the Weimar Cross Road Overcrossing in Placer County.

One lane of Interstate 80 will be closed for three-quarters of a mile at Weimar Cross Road as crews excavate the section of Interstate 80 under the overcrossing as part of the Raise80 project, which is increasing the vertical clearance of nine freeway overcrossings on Interstate 80 in south Placer County.

The lane closure is scheduled from 8pm May 10 through 5am May 22.  Eastbound motorists can expect delays of 15 to 30 minutes throughout the project with significantly longer delays of up to 90 minutes on May 15 and May 16. Westbound traffic will not be affected.

●      TRYP is hosting a workshop about how to negotiate raises and other important topics in the workplace. It is May 20 from 6-7pm at Inn by the Lake, 3300 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. It is free for members, $5 for non-members.

●   A film crew from Fox Business Network will be at South Tahoe High School on May 8 to film a segment to be part of “In View”, which is hosted by Larry King. The school board
earlier this year approved the filming.

● Medical providers from Barton Health’s Tahoe Center for Orthopedics and Emergency Department have volunteered to provide medical support at the Amgen Tour of California on May 8-9. Emergency and orthopedic physicians, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and nurses will be ready to help athletes on the course and at the finish line.

●      Lake Valley Fire Protection District’s budget will be discussed at a May 14, 7pm public hearing at the Keetak Street station in Meyers.

●      Stacey F. Herhusky of Incline Law Group has been recognized by the National Academy of Family Law Attorneys as one of Nevada’s top 10 family law attorneys.

Tahoe City Public Utilities District is considering building a water treatment plant on the West Shore.

Three locations are being considered:

• Lodge Road for water treatment plant (WTP) and Chambers Landing for the lake intake
• Chamberland Drive WTP and Chambers Landing lake intake
• Lagoon Road WTP and McKinney Shores lake intake.

Each of the potential WTP sites are vacant parcels located west of Highway 89.

The project will be discussed by the TCPUD Sewer & Water Committee on May 7 at 8am, TCPUD board room, 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City. There will also be a public workshop May 9 from 9-11am at Chambers Landing Restaurant, 6300 Chambers Lodge Road, Homewood.

The environmental documents are anticipated to be released in June.

• Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District is having a special meeting May 8 at 5pm at the clubhouse in Meyers.
• Watercraft inspections will begin at the Donner Lake public boat launch May 9. Inspections will be on Saturdays and Sundays until June 1, when watercraft inspections will be conducted seven days a week.
• This year’s Gun and Hoses Golf Tournament raised $16,035 for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation.
• Sample the Sierra, Lake Tahoe’s only farm-to-fork festival, is Sept. 6 from noon-5pm (tasting ends at 4pm) at Bijou Community Park in South Lake Tahoe. For tickets or more info, go online.
• A five-day inaugural film festival takes place at Mammoth Lakes starting May 27. Three of the short films that are part of the film festival were filmed in Mono County. For more information about the film festival, go online.

· More than $98,000 was raised for the High Fives Foundation at the Silver Tie Gala.

· Sierra Expeditionary Learning School will celebrate its second annual Great Skate event at Northstar on June 5 from 4-9pm. Proceeds benefit the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District K-8 public charter.

· Nevada All State Trail Riders is having a poker ride and ice cream social on July 25 at Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City.
