· Sharket.com has compiled a ranking of the top five Marriott Vacation Club timeshare resorts; South Lake Tahoe is on the list.

·  EDsmart recently released rankings of California community colleges, with Lake Tahoe Community College being in the top five.

·  Carson Valley Inn Food Truck Festival is May 23 from noon-8pm. It will be in and adjacent to TJ’s Corral, the outdoor events center at the inn.

The next incarnation of the former Alta Mira building site will be the topic of a May 26 meeting.

California Tahoe Conservancy is hosting the open house to gather public input regarding reuse of the site. The primary purpose of the project is to enhance public lakefront access within the El Dorado Beach corridor.

· Lahontan Water Quality Control Board on May 14 signed off on Heavenly Mountain Resort’s Epic Discovery plans. Construction should begin this summer.

· “Looking for a Log Cabin Vacation Home in Lake Tahoe,” will air May 27 at 7pm on HGTV.

· The 14-year Snapshot Day report along with the comprehensive database of samples collected since 2001 for each of the South Shore monitoring sites is available online.

· Local artist Terry Easley is an award-winning author, songwriter, and photographer. He will show his work May 23 from 5-7pm at Elevation 6225 Sports on Kingsbury Grade in Stateline. He will be offering signed prints.

· Hoopa and Salyer left Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care on May 14 on their way to the Hoopa Indian Reservation. Both bears gained 48 pounds in the 4½ months they were at LTWC. Salyer arrived Dec. 24 at 24 pounds and Hoopa on Dec. 31 at 20 pounds.

· El Dorado County CAO Pamela Knorr on May 12 announced the county would begin recruiting for the chief administrator officer job. She said she will bring back details to the board soon. She was appointed as interim CAO earlier this year for one year.

The Douglas County Public Library is having book sales May 22 from 1-5pm, May 23 from 9am-5pm and May 24 from 11am-2pm.

The sale will be at the Douglas County Community and Senior Center, 1329 Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.

Thousands of used books and audio books will be for sale; DVDs and music CDs will also be available.

Friends of the Douglas County Public Library members and anyone who joins the Friends during the sale will receive a 15 percent discount.

The Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road in Yosemite National Park will temporarily close at 8pm May 13.

This is due to a significant storm predicted for the area that will potentially produce several inches of snow at higher elevations.

Both roads will remain temporarily closed until conditions permit safe travel.

The Bike’s Impact on Tahoe’s Economy will be the subject of a discussion May 20 from noon-1:30pm.

Biking and walking positively contribute to Lake Tahoe’s economy, but by how much? This talk will be a panel discussion on what is known about how biking and walking impact Tahoe’s economy.

The panel will be moderated by Ben Fish, president of the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association. Panelists include: Carol Chaplin, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority; Curtis Fong, Bike the West; Gary Bell, Sierra Ski and Cycle Works; andJason Collin, Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce.

The free talk is in the Aspen Room at Lake Tahoe Community College.

·  Caltrans will talk about the 2019 Echo Summit closure on May 21 at 8:30am at the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce board meeting.

·  Cave Rock boat ramp will be closed May 13 for routine maintenance.

·  Over the Edge Sports, which specializes in selling mountain bikes, will open a store in South Lake Tahoe on May 22.

·  El Dorado County Supervisor Shiva Frentzen is having a town hall meeting May 14 from 5:30-7pm at Pioneer Fire Station 38, 7061 Mt. Aukum Road, Somerset.

·  Without Placer County’s contribution, the North Lake Tahoe Water Shuttle can’t operate. The supes voted not to give $149,000 to help fund the shuttle that has been operating since summer 2012. Before the service started the forecast was more than 22,000 people would use the boat; 3,165 used it last summer.

Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce and South Lake Tahoe are offering a customer service workshop June 3 from 1-5pm.

The goal is for business owners, managers and their staff to discover creative approaches for delivering service that will wow customers and turn them into raving fans. Workshop topics include: making customers feel important (and why you need to), how to avoid and prevent some of the most common customer interaction blunders, how to manage stressful situations more successfully and effective techniques for building customer loyalty and earning five star reviews.

The cost of the workshop is $20 for chamber members and $40 for non-members.

The workshop will be at the chamber’s conference room, 169 Highway 50, Stateline.
