South Lake Tahoe is launching eComment, a way to collect comments from citizens on agenda items.

It is designed to provide an easy way for people to give input and make participation in public meetings convenient. It is a web-based form that’s tightly integrated with the city’s published agenda. Residents can review agenda item details, indicate their position on an item and provide feedback.

All comments can be consolidated into a report and delivered to elected members prior to the meeting.

To utilize eComment, citizens must log onto the city’s website prior to a meeting, and click on “Agendas and Minutes” on the homepage. To submit a comment, click the eComment link next to an upcoming meeting’s agenda. The eComment feature is available for the June 2 City Council meeting.

Beachy Orr, Lake Tahoe Community College’s longtime biology and anatomy and physiology instructor, will give a talk June 1 titled Got M&M’s?. It will be an interactive talk about how muscles and nerves in the body work together to create contractions and movement.

Orr will also explore how disease and exposure to certain toxins can interfere with natural, healthy human movement. This will be a hands-on demonstration that calls for some audience participation, and K-12 students and their parents are in particular urged to come and join in the fun.

The LTCC Foundation’s Speaker Spotlight Series brings faculty and academic experts from LTCC and other colleges and universities to South Lake Tahoe to share their knowledge and experiences with local students, and to encourage local youth to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology and math.

The 6pm talk is free. It will be in the board room.

Another bear rehabbed at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care has been immortalized in a book.

“Cinder the Bear” is expected to be released June 3 — the same day the bear will return to the wild.

The bear came to LTWC in August 2014 after having been burned in a wildfire in Washington. In November, the cub was transported to Idaho Black Bear Rehabilitation Center.

Li’l Smokey was the first LTWC cub to be written about in a book.

South Tahoe Public Utility District may change how board members are elected.

Up for discussion at the June 4 2pm meeting is whether to change to an at-large system. Since the district’s formation directors have been elected to an office designed by one of five seat numbers.

The board is looking for public input. Emails may be sent to mguttry@stpud.dst.ca.us. The meeting is at 1275 Meadow Crest Drive, South Lake Tahoe.

· Golf Advisor recently released its list of the top 50 U.S. Golf Courses in 2014. Incline Village Championship Course was rated No. 19.

· Local Superheroes Day at South Lake Tahoe Library is July 3 at 2pm. Superheroes will include South Lake Tahoe firefighters and police officers, U.S. Forest Service wildland firefighters and South Tahoe Refuse workers. No cost to attend.​ The library is at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

· June 27 is the Summer Kick Off Concert at Northwoods Clubhouse at Tahoe Donner. The free concert is from 6-8pm. Northwoods Clubhouse is located at 11509 Northwoods Blvd., Truckee.

· Leon Malmed of South Lake Tahoe will be interviewed on June 19 and June 21 on PBS in regards to his book about surviving the Holocaust.

Lake Tahoe Golf Course will be the site of two new events this summer.

The 10th Tee Summer Music Series will be the third Sunday of each month — June 21, July 19, Aug. 16 and Sept. 20.

The free concerts will be from 4-8pm at the Meyers golf course.

Tahoe Games Bike Nights will be July 31, Aug. 15 and Sept. 26. Registration starts at 8pm.

On Course Events, which is putting on the music and bike events, will illuminate a custom cross country course under a full moon for ages 10 and up. Decorating bikes with lights is strongly encouraged.

The Lake Tahoe Historical Society will host an evening looking back at the formation of the city of South Lake Tahoe.

The speakers will be Laurel Ames, Betty Mitchell and John Cefalu.

The chat will be June 10 beginning at 7pm at Lake Tahoe Airport. Cost is $3. It is free for Historical Society members.

The Memorial Day Weekend Avoid the 6 – DUI Campaign resulted in four arrests.

Nine special DUI patrols and officers on routine patrol focused special attention on impaired drivers for four days.

In 2014, there were zero DUI arrests occurred during the Memorial Day weekend.

South Lake Tahoe police, El Dorado County sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers were part of the enforcement team.
