·  The fourth season of Live at Lakeview begins June 25 at 4:30pm and goes to 8:30pm. Making their Lake Tahoe debuts are the Raymond Victor Band and Jonny Gold Trio.

·  The Free Little Library on Sacramento and San Francisco avenues in South Lake Tahoe keeps getting robbed. It was cleaned out twice.

·  Christian DeLeon, previous women’s soccer head coach at Lake Tahoe Community College and South Tahoe High School, is now the women’s soccer coach at Sierra Nevada College.

·  SNC’s Head Ski Coach and Athletic Director Branko Zagar was named the 2015 USCSA coach of the year by the U.S. Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association.

·  Douglas County Public Library in Zephyr Cove will be closed July 4. The library will reopen July 8 at 11am.

Law Enforcement Strategies to Improve Pedestrian and Cyclist Safety will be the subject of a June 24 talk in South Lake Tahoe.

The free event is from noon-1:30 in the board room at Lake Tahoe Community College.

It will be a webinar with discussion afterward. The webinar os produced by the Association of Pedestrians and Bicyclists. A representative from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department will part of the discussion.

·  Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Granite Bay, is having a town hall meeting June 30 at 6pm at the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors chambers, 330 Fair Lane, Placerville.

·  There will be a fundraiser for the Tahoe Rim Trail Association on June 19 from 5-8pm at New Moon Natural Foods in Truckee. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected at the door and all proceeds raised will go directly to the TRTA. Must be 21 and over to participate in the tastings.

·  On June 30 from 5:30-7pm is a Lake Tahoe Airport master plan meeting at the airport.

·  North Tahoe Public Utility District customers cut residential water consumption by 35 percent in May compared to 2013. May 2013 usage was 149 gallons residential gallons per capita per day, 143 residential gallons per capital per day in 2014 and 96 residential gallons per capita per day in 2015.

The El Dorado County’s Mental Health Division wants public input on the 2015-16 Mental Health Services Act Plan update.

The draft plan update provides information on current and new MHSA programs and budgets for three fiscal years (FY 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18). MHSA components in the plan update include: prevention and early intervention; community services and support; workforce education and training; and capital facilities and technology needs.

Vacation Bible School is being offered at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe.

The theme is Everest. Kids will embark on an icy expedition to overcome obstacles with God’s power.

VBS-Everest 2015 is July 21-24 from 5:30-8:30pm. There is a $5 per student fee for the week.

It is open to all children entering pre-K through seventh grade.

There is also a need for volunteers in grades 7-12.

If you recognize Fallen Leaf Lake and distant Lake Tahoe in the above photo, then you recognize Angora Ridge before road construction started in 1924.

Longtime local Jim Hildinger writes in his booklet “Angora Lakes Resort (1917 to 2014)” that his
father’s “construction of the road began in 1924 and was finally completed in 1929. It was all done by hand — a pick and shovel and crowbar, a very small amount of dynamite and a very great amount of sweat.”

The structure remains today, although it was retired as a lookout in the 1970s with the advent of modern technology. Considerable growth of the trees has obstructed views.

The road was only rocks and dirt and very rough, steep driving. Jim Hildinger writes in his booklet, “… In 1963 the ridge was paved — then in 2005 the whole road was paved in order to satisfy water quality standards established by the TRPA.”

Quite a contrast to the ridge of 90 years ago.

·  Cameron Irwin, 7, and his family stopped by Barton Memorial Hospital with a special donation. In lieu of birthday presents, Cameron asked his friends to donate gifts for younger patients at the hospital. In his words, he thought it would help kids who weren’t feeling well be “less lonely.”

·  Tahoe Bike Challenge awards will be given out June 20 at the Cycle Celebration at Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe from noon-4pm.

Incline Village General Improvement District is using a financial analysis platform powered by OpenGov.com to provide residents, elected officials and staff unprecedented access to the district’s finances.

South Lake Tahoe last year started using the same program. IVGID is the first entity in Nevada to do so.

The  web-based platform transforms volumes of raw financial data into an interactive, digital format. The intuitive interface makes it easier to explore how taxpayer money is collected and spent.
