· Truckee fine art photographer Elizabeth Carmel created six wall-size photographic murals for the Donner Memorial State Park Museum in Truckee.

In an effort to wrap up construction activities along Highway 28 through Kings Beach before the July 4  weekend, Q & D plans to repave the eastern portion of the highway this week.

This work will require the grinding of the existing road section between Coon and Beaver streets, and then repaving with asphalt to match the concrete curb and gutter along the edges of the highway. This will require Q & D to work from 6am to 6pm. The highway paving is anticipated to be completed June 26.

During this week’s paving operations and up until July 2, crews will complete as much of the sidewalk improvements as possible on the south side of Highway 28 between Coon Street and the Minnow Avenue parking lot. Placer County Department of Public Works’ goal is to have this section of sidewalk open for use by the Fourth of July weekend.

Although a goal of the project is to provide as much on-highway parking as possible during construction, motorists must be aware that vehicles parked along the south side of the highway between Coon Street and Bear Street, are parked illegally as they block the designated bike lane.

Two years ago Unity at the Lake built a labyrinth next to the sanctuary on Rufus Allen Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.

This labyrinth was created by for the greater Lake Tahoe community to use and enjoy. Walking the labyrinth is a walking meditation.

There is a welcoming bench on which to rest and reflect before and after walking.

The community is also welcome June 26 from 7-8pm for the drum circle and meditation at the labyrinth. Bring a chair, drums/rattles and a water bottle.

The photo above may look vaguely familiar to TV viewers. It is Bourne’s Meadow between Round Hill Pines and Marla Bay. For several seasons it was the opening scenery for TV’s long-running “Bonanza”, showing the Cartwrights galloping toward the camera.

Sawmill Road between Incline Road and Highway 50 will be off limits from June 29-Aug. 21.

The South Shore road closure is necessary to complete a 1.2-mile class 1 bicycle and multi-use path connecting to the existing bicycle path.

Motorists will need to use Lake Tahoe Boulevard to access the western section of Sawmill Road.

Areas of Alpine County will be without power as Liberty Utilities replaces power poles.

The work will be done on June 24 and July 1, between 9am and 5pm. Outages could last for eight hours each of those days.

Affected areas begin at Turtle Rock Park and include Airport Road, Markleeville, Grover Hot Springs, Shay Creek, Carson River Resort and Markleevillage.

·  The 5th annual Aviation Roundup at the Minden-Tahoe Airport will be Aug. 22-23. The show will feature the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Team Rocket, Bill Stein, Kyle Franklin, Matt Younkin, Manfred Radius, and Dan Buchanan.

·  Truckee is implementing a burn ban effective June 22. This means there will be no more debris burning.

·  South Lake Tahoe’s Fourth of July parade starts at 9am at Rufus Allen Boulevard and Highway 50, and will end near the Y.
