The 5:30-8:30pm event is at the Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe.
Guests are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to receive additional raffle tickets.
The cost is $20 for members, $30 for non-members; which includes one drink ticket and two raffle tickets.
The latest phone scam in Nevada has people posing as officials form the state Attorney General’s Office or U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Callers are trying to collect personal information and money.
These agencies don’t actually call people directly asking for money.

The Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club is having a fundraiser at the Nevada Museum of Art on then final night of the Tahoe: A Visual History.
There will be an optional guided tour. The evening also includes a chef’s table dinner prepared as well as entertainment by the Ghost of Mark Twain to honor the lake, the history, and current conservation efforts.

Producers of the annual Renaissance Fair at Camp Richardson on Monday announced via Facebook that the 2016 event is a no-go.
This is because the U.S. Forest Service is overhauling the campground. Work will not be done in time for the late May, early June fair.
The Badger’s Den area at Camp Rich was a potential alternative, but organizers said it is not “conducive to development of an event of the quality we are used to bringing to Tahoe. … For those reason, among others, we’ve decided that we will skip doing the Valhalla Renaissance Faire in 2016 and return the show it all its fine glory to Eagle’s Nest in 2017.”
California State Sen. Pro Tem Kevin de León, D-Los Angeles, will be the keynote speaker at Operation Sierra Storm Meteorologist Conference on Jan. 8.

He will discuss the outcome of the Paris climate conference and highlight results including the long term economic, environmental and cultural impacts and California’s role as a leader in addressing climate change.
The annual conference includes scientists, lawmakers and television meteorologists from major market network affiliates throughout the United States.
Alexander (Sasha) Gershunov with Scripps Institution of Oceanography will also speak about this year’s El Niño phenomenon on that Friday. Gershunov is affiliated with the Climate Education Partners (funded by National Science Foundation), NOAA’s California and Nevada Climate Applications Program, Department of the Interior’s Southwest Climate Science Center.
Gershunov will talk at 8am, followed by de León at 10am at Harveys Cabaret Theater.

NAMI Family Support Group is a free, confidential and safe support group of families helping other families who live with mental health challenges by utilizing their collective lived experience and group wisdom.
The group meets the second Tuesday of each month form 6-7:30pm.
Participants will learn best practices for caring for a loved one who is living with mental illness. The meetings are led by family members of individuals living with mental illness.
This group encourages empathy, productive discussion and a sense of community.
Meetings are at the South Lake Tahoe Library, 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.
The 2016 dates are: Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 8, April 12, May 10, June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, Sept. 13, Oct. 11, Nov. 8, and Dec. 13.
· Tahoe National Forest’s Truckee Ranger District has been named District of the Year by the U.S. Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Region.
· Caltrans District 3 employees provided more than $16,200 in cash donations and 747 pounds of food for local charities throughout the Sacramento Valley and Sierra regions as well as the Yuba-Sutter Chapter of the Salvation Army. Local charities included Sacramento Loaves and Fishes, Sacramento Food Bank, Food Bank of Nevada County and Christmas Cheer in South Lake Tahoe.
· In 2016 Washoe County Sheriff’s Office’s search and rescue team will be celebrating 50 years of service.
· According to the latest numbers released by the California Department of Finance, Placer County leads the state in net domestic migration with 3.85 percent. This means more people are choosing to call Placer County home than are deciding to pack the moving van.

A = Steve Myers’s original Tahoe Drive-In Theatre which moved to Bijou in the mid-1950s. Its curvy driveway leading from Cecil’s (C) ultimately became an extension of Park Avenue entering the Crescent V Center. Today that leg is renamed Heavenly Village Way.
B = Jack VanSickle’s Crescent V Ranch and Stateline Riding Stables, part of which became Crescent V Shopping Center in 1963.
C = The landmark Cecil’s Market was razed in 2001 for redevelopment.
D = (Judge) Rudy and Jeannie Buchanan’s quonset-hut Lakeside Theatre was razed in 1962 and rebuilt in 1963 near the Y. Rebuilt again by Office Depot in 1990s, it now is the CVS store.

The Douglas County Public Library continues its First Saturday of the Month Family Movies on Jan. 2.
“The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” will be shown from 2-3:15pm in the library meeting room. The movie and popcorn are free.
