· Diamond Peak reported 43,000 skier visits for January, which is a 65 percent increase compared to 2015. This month the ski resort has had 35,000 skier visits as of Feb. 24. The resort has earned $7.6 million in revenue and spent $4.2 million.

The Douglas County Public Library is participating in the In-N-Out Burger Cover to Cover Library Reading Program from March 5-April 16.
Children ages 4-12 are eligible to receive certificates for a free In-N-Out hamburger or cheeseburger by reading books.
Both branches of the library are participating. Fill out a card at the library to enroll in the program. Readers will earn an award redeemable for one In-N-Out hamburger for every five books read at their reading level. Each child may earn up to three certificates. Children too young to read on their own may have a parent read to them.
The Douglas County Public Library is located at 1625 Library Lane in Minden and 233 Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove.
Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District has partnered with Kingsbury Hardware to provide ash cans to homeowners in the fire district for the safe disposal of hot ashes.
This program is available for free to district residents who use a wood burning appliance to heat their homes.
Improper disposal of hot ashes can be devastating. Jan. 19 marked the anniversary of the 2012 Washoe Drive Fire that destroyed 29 homes and charred 3,177 acres south of Reno. It was caused by the improper disposal of fireplace ashes.
To obtain a free ash can, go online, then under prevention print out an Ash Can Voucher. Vouchers are also available at Station 23 in Round Hill across from Safeway. Completed vouchers may be exchanged for an ash can at Kingsbury Hardware while supplies last.
Full ash cans be dumped at TDFPD Station No. 23, 193 Elks Point Road, Zephyr Cove, in the rear parking lot in a bright red dumpster.
· South Lake Tahoe’s David Kelly received the Presidential Citation Award from the American Baptist Homes of the West for his extraordinary contribution to ABHOW through his leadership and dedication to the mission. Kelly Ridge, named after him, as well as Tahoe Senior Plaza were envisioned and completed because of Kelly.
· Scott Baker is now assistant fire chief for Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District. Most recently he was division chief of fleet and facilities in Reno.
· El Dorado County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 23 agreed that dogs will be allowed in Tahoe Paradise Park assuming they are on a leash. The new rule should take affect this summer.
· Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District is having a workshop regarding the park’s master plan on March 3 from 6-8pm at the California Conservation Crops office in Meyers.
· The Landing Resort in South Lake Tahoe has been named by Outside magazine as one of the best new hotels in ski country.
· There will be a statewide marrow drive for California Highway Patrolman Keith Meter on March 12 from 10am-3pm. On the South Shore it will be at the Meyers office on Hopi Avenue. People are being asked to sign up for the marrow registry, which involves a cheek swab process. For more info, call 530.577.1001.
· On March 10, Fish out of Water will be at the Lakeview Loft above Dart Liquor in Stateline at 9pm. In addition to live music, the event will feature live art from local artist Will Eichelberger. Must be 21 to attend. Cost is $10.

· Truckee Town Hall’s entryway in March will be transported back in time to the late 1700s and the era of Spanish exploration in California with work from Tahoe Expedition Academy students.
· Conde Nast Traveler magazine rated Lake Tahoe as one of the best places for a bachelor or bachelorette party.
· Fire Sign Café on the West Shore is rated as one of the top five mountain breakfasts by Outside magazine.
· CCMedia, formerly Creative Concepts Media + Marketing, is celebrating its 25th year in business. The company has offices in Truckee, Reno and Las Vegas.
Motorists can expect delays on Highway 89 in the Tahoe City on Feb. 23-25 when Caltrans resumes pavement repair work.
The work is scheduled to take place from Ward Creek to and including Fanny Bridge in Tahoe City from 8am-3:30pm. It will require one-way reversing traffic controls.
A number of potholes have developed on the highway because of the heavy amount of precipitation so far this winter, necessitating this maintenance repair work prior to a construction project resuming this spring that will rebuild the highway.
· The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit received a $6,000 donation from NV Energy for the Penny Pines Program, which will be used in LTBMU tree plantation sites including the Angora Fire area.
· South Lake Tahoe firefighters are participating in the March 5 St. Baldrick’s Foundation’s Brave the Shave for Kids with Cancer. More information is available online.

· Tahoe Sierra Century and Ride Miles for Music is Sept. 17. Choose a 30-, 60-, or 100-mile road bike route starting at village at Squaw Valley. Register online. All proceeds benefit music education in North Lake Tahoe.
· Kottonmouth Kings and guests Marlon Asher, Whitney Peyton and Chucky Chuck will be at Whiskey Dicks Saloon in South Lake Tahoe on March 10. Doors open at 9pm. Must be 21 to attend. Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 that night.
