Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce is kicking off its workshop series Level Up on March 23 with executive coach Alexis Robin.

She will be teaching an interactive leadership workshop titled Step Up and Lead: Skills to Succeed in Business.

The workshop will focus on the leadership competencies individuals need to be able to move from staff to leader, lead their own business or level up their performance within their existing leadership role. Topics will include competencies of highly effective leaders, managing expectations, and leadership styles for difference situations. Attendees are encouraged to bring their leadership challenges to the workshop as time will also be allocated to work through real life situations.

It will be from 2-5pm at the chamber conference room. Cost of the workshop is $20 for chamber members and $40 for non-members.

·      Lake Valley Fire Protection District will be hosting a community Easter Egg Hunt on March 27 at 9am at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers. The Easter Bunny will be there, too.

·       Raley’s in Incline Village has voluntarily stopped offering plastic bags to customers.

·       El Dorado County is using Rocklin-based Ralph Andersen & Associates to find a chief administrative officer. Larry Combs has had the job on an interim basis since June.

·       Fire prevention fee bills for fiscal year 2015-16 began being mailed March 1 to more than 700,000 rural Californians, many of who are receiving a bill for the fifth time. Information on how to appeal is available online.

·      Freedom from smoking classes start March 23 and run for seven consecutive Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30pm at Barton University in South Lake Tahoe. To register, call 530.543.5549. Cost is $30.

·      Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce needs volunteers to conduct door-to-door surveys to determine specific future employment needs for businesses. Carolyn Batchelor

A memorial service for Carolyn Batchelor will be conducted March 5 at 10am.

The 69-year-old had lived in Zephyr Cove for the last four years. She was active with the South Lake Tahoe Friends of the Library.

Ms. Batchelor move to Lake Tahoe after having lived in San Pedro for 30 years.

Services will be at Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship, 3580 Blackwood Road, South Lake Tahoe.

·      According to USA Today’s Readers’ Choice Contest, Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area is the third best cross country ski resort in the United States.

·       Tourism is Nevada’s No. 1 industry, employing 474,000 Nevadans and generating more than $3 billion in tax revenue for the state.

·       The League to Save Lake Tahoe hired Erica Mirich as director of development. Most recently she served as senior director of annual giving for the Stevenson School in Pebble Beach. She had previously been director of development for Lake Tahoe School in Incline Village.

·       El Dorado County Area Agency on Aging and the El Dorado County Commission on Aging’s annual Senior of the Year award will be presented May 17. Here is an application to nominate someone.

American Legion Auxiliary Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe will have a rummage sale March 4-5.

Hundreds of items will be for sale including clothing, toys, electronics, antiques, household items and more.

It will be from 9am to 5pm each day, at the American Legion Hall, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

California Transportation Plan 2040 lays out a vision for state’s transportation future by providing mobility, supporting a vibrant economy and meeting greenhouse gas emission reduction goals.

CTP 2040 envisions a fully integrated, multimodal and sustainable transportation system in California. It is designed to to meet the state’s goal to reduce emissions by 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.

Now Caltrans wants the public’s input on the plan. The public may review and comment on the plan by going online.  Comments must be submitted by 5pm March 29.

Two of the 19 businesses recognized by the California Air Resources Board for leadership and making notable, voluntary achievements toward reducing their carbon footprint are from Lake Tahoe.

Elevated Fitness in South Lake Tahoe and Granlibakken Resort in Tahoe City were among the business that took a number of different actions to save money and improve their business operations while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and environmental impacts.

Some of the steps the 19 businesses took included installing LED lights, solar panels, and energy-efficient equipment; manufacturing biodiesel or using biodiesel fueled vehicles; eliminating toxic chemicals and solvents; using eco-friendly, recycled/reused/repurposed products; composting food scraps and plant material; and starting or enhancing recycling and water conservation programs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County’s first fundraising effort in the South Lake Tahoe area is April 2.

The inaugural Bowl for Kids’ Sake will be from 11am-1pm at Tahoe Bowl. The proceeds from this event will be used to provide preventative one-on-one mentoring services in the South Lake Tahoe community.
