Longtime local resident Dave Wakeman remembers attending this 1948 Easter Egg Hunt at age 6. The Bijou Park Club on Highway 50 sponsored the annual egg hunts and other community events when the local population numbered only in the hundreds.

The building fell victim to the rampant construction of motels and attractions preceding the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley.

Incline Business Network is conducting a forum next week about potential impacts to Incline Village from a medical marijuana dispensary that is about to open.

Dispensaries are new to Nevada, while neighboring California has had them for several year. The one in Incline – NuLeaf – is slated to open this spring on Tahoe Boulevard.

Taking part in the discussion will be Sean Luse and Sabrina Fendrick from NuLeaf, Washoe County sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Clark, state Sen. Tick Segerblom, and Susanna Kintz and Heidi Mitchel from the business community.

South Lake Tahoe has more than 250 youth that are in transition due to life circumstances.  These include foster children, transitional age youth who may be homeless and couch surfers. They are without permanent homes.

They frequently carry their limited belonging from place to place in plastic garbage bags.

To help these youth bring some order to their lives, the Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra is staging a pack back and luggage drive on April 2 from 10am-2pm at the TJ Maxx parking lot in South Lake Tahoe.

Club members are seeking donations of new or gently used backpacks, duffle bags, and suitcases. The backpacks and luggage will be given to local agencies working with children and youth. Usable camping equipment will also be collected.

Representatives from the various agencies will be on hand to answer questions.

·       The El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office has released a video to educate the public on ways to avoid being conned when choosing to rent a vacation home online.

·      Sierra-at-Tahoe is hosting a Boarding for Breast Cancer benefit and concert all day at the resort on April 2.

·       Ten people are vying for the three open seats on the Incline Village General Improvement District board.

·       JetBlue will offer nonstop flights between Reno and Long Beach starting in August.

Jake Callanan of South Lake Tahoe on March 24 received the merit and valor certificate from the U.S. Coast Guard.

He along with his employer Ski Run Boat Company were given the honor at the Lake Tahoe Marina Association meeting Thursday.

Last summer when Callanan heard a woman screaming he relinquished control of his vessel to the capable hands of his customers. He jumped into the lake, swam about 20yards to find that the woman’s teenage sister was unconscious, unresponsive face down in the water.

While others called 911, Callanan swam and carried the girl back to shore. As he was preparing for to preform CPR she began breathing and eventually regained consciousness.
