Sierra State Parks Foundation will host the second annual fundraising gala A Night at the Museum: Celebrating the Pioneer Experience on June 4.

This “country elegant” evening will kick off the fundraising efforts to restore the 98-year-old Donner Pioneer Monument. Starting at 6pm there will be live music, costumed period actors, unique food, and the not-no-silent auction.

Tickets are $150. Seating at the Donner museum is limited and reservations are required. Tickets can be purchased online.

Dinner is at 7pm, followed by the auction.

·       El Dorado County Fair’s theme this year is Cowboys & Carousels. The fair is June 16-19 in Placerville.

·       Guests at Squaw Valley-Alpine Meadows donated a little more than $48,000 in Green Bucks to the Tahoe Fund and the Truckee River Watershed Council.  The donation came from dollar donations added to lift tickets, season passes and food and beverage sales during the 2015-16 season.

·       El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini has scheduled five town hall style meetings about the proposed sheriff’s headquarters, however not one is in the basin.

·       Since its inception in 2009, the Gene Upshaw Memorial Fund has raised more than $1 million for cancer research, patient care and mild traumatic brain injury research and innovation. Since 2009, $463,544 has been directed specifically for traumatic brain injury research with the Tahoe Institute for Rural Health Research. Most of the money is raised through the Gene Upshaw Memorial Golf Classic in July. Funds have also supported the Gene Upshaw Memorial Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, pancreatic cancer research, Tahoe Forest Hospital Innovations Fund and Hospice programs.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department’s annual awards ceremony is May 26 at 3pm at the department.

·      South Lake Tahoe City Manager Nancy Kerry on May 14 will be the keynote speaker at the San Diego State University School of Public Affairs dinner for distinguished graduates where she will be receiving the outstanding alumni award.

·       The U.S. Forest Service, Truckee Ranger District, is planning to burn 40-80 acres of understory vegetation near Russel Valley/Stampede Reservoir on May 10-11.

·       There will be detours on Highway 50 on the West Slope on May 17-18 while El Dorado County does roadwork.

·       Maciej Stebel is the newest deputy for Douglas County Sheriff’s Department.

·       High Five Foundation’s Silver Tie Gala raised more than $100,000 for mountain athletes with major injuries.

·       The 13th annual Rocks and Rhones Celebration is May 21-22, 11am-4pm each day at five El Dorado County Wineries. Tickets are $35 in advance online, $40 at the door, $20 for designated drivers.

The exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 80 at Emigrant Gap will be closed Monday through Thursday from 6am to dusk, May 16-26 for emergency repairs to a failed culvert and down drain adjacent to the freeway.

The exit ramp’s fill slope is eroded so rock slope protection will be installed to prevent further damage.

Eastbound motorists will be detoured to the freeway’s next exit – Laing Road – which will allow access to Emigrant Gap Road.

·       Construction on Cave Rock is expected to start May 9. Traffic near Cave Rock will be reduced to one lane in each direction and routed through the eastbound tunnel.

·       The American Council of Graduate Medical Education has identified Barton Health, in conjunction with Lake Tahoe Sports Medicine Fellowship program, as an accredited graduate medical education institution.
