·      The nonprofit Project MANA, which provides food to about 3,000 people a year in North Lake Tahoe on Truckee, is in search of a new home after the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation in Incline Village did not renew the lease.

·       On May 25 the Truckee Family Resource Center will be hosting a car seat safety check event from 2-6pm in the parking lot at 11695 Donner Pass Road next to Kid Zone. A limited number of car seats will be available to replace broken or expired seats

·      The League to Save Lake Tahoe is having and Eyes on the Lake trainings June 3 from 10am-12:30pm and June 21 from 5:30-8pm.

The Tahoe National Forest is hosting a photo contest from May 28-Sept. 30.

Photos must be taken on the Tahoe National Forest and may include such subjects as:  wilderness, wildlife and plants, recreation, rivers and lakes, lookouts, and landscapes, among others.

First, second and third place winners will be announced in October. Winners will be recognized on the Forest website, social media pages, and other publications.

Nevada Department of Transportation officials are warning some motorists that their vehicle may not make it through Cave Rock tunnel during construction.

Work started earlier this month to secure the rock so it doesn’t keep falling on the highway. The tunnel is be lengthened and other work done to solve the problem.

Traffic is being routed through the eastern tunnel. Vehicles wider than 8-feet, 6-inches and taller than 14-feet, 6 inches will not fit. Vehicles larger than this will have to find a route other than Highway 50.

The project is expected to be finished in the fall.

The El Dorado County School Boards Association and the El Dorado County Office of Education will host the Prospective School Board Member Workshop for those interested in running for election in November.

This free workshop will take place June 20.

El Dorado County Superintendent of Schools Ed Manansala and EDCOE attorney David Girard will conduct the workshop. The topics will include time commitment, the Brown Act, policy development, budget responsibilities, and the role school boards play in public education.

The filing period for the November election is July 18-Aug. 12.

Don’t believe everything you think: How our thoughts affect mood and behavior is the subject of a June 9 talk at Sierra Nevada College.

Karin Sable is a licensed marriage and family therapist providing mental health and counseling services in the Truckee-Tahoe area. She will talk about how negative thoughts are a normal part of the developing brain. Understanding how these thoughts evolve and their relationship to mood and behavior gives people power to reconsider their thinking and affect real change.

UC Davis limnologist Charles Goldman will be telling five decades’ worth of stories and history of research at Lake Tahoe next month, as well as delving into the challenges ahead.

The talk is June 21 at Sierra Nevada College.

The training is June 21, 23 and 25.
