Elevated Fitness in South Lake Tahoe is putting on a Celebrity Scavenger Charity Dash.
The beneficiary is the Lake Tahoe Humane Society.
Participants will race with or against MTV celebrities. Teams will solve clues, scavenge items, complete challenges, all while discovering a bit of Tahoe.
The event starts at Elevated Fitness on July 8 at 4pm.
Cost is $60 per person or $100 for a team.

Ed Viesturs, the only American to have summited all of the world’s 14 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen, will be giving a talk June 20 in Incline Village.
He is now a best-selling author, having written four books. Viesturs was the key figure in the IMAX “Everest Expedition” documentary. He’s summited Everest seven times and was named National Geographic’s 2005 Adventurer of the Year.
Viesturs will share stories about his expeditions at the Chateau in Incline at 6pm. Cost is $35.

On June 24, members of the California Highway Patrol Meyers office are hosting “coffee with a cop” at Aplina Cafe in South Lake Tahoe.
This is an opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in El Dorado County. The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members.
The event begins at 9am.
Registration to compete in the 4oth annual World’s Gold Panning Championship is available online for experienced and novice panners.
The Olympics of Gold Panning will take place in Placerville, just miles from where the California Gold Rush began, during a countywide, weeklong celebration Sept. 11-18. Competitors from all over the world will be participating at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds.
For the seasoned competitors, there are nine categories.
The “fun” gold panning categories include “pixies” for ages 5 and under, children 6-10, and adult beginners.

The annual re-ride of the of the Pony Express from Sacramento to St. Joseph, Mo., will pass through Hope Valley on June 16 at about 9am — give or take two hours on either side.
This is a 10-day ride that has more than 600 riders traveling 1,966 miles nonstop. They follow the historic Pony Express Trail.
The Central Overland California and Pikes Peak Express Company carried letters and telegrams for 19 months in 1860-61.

Festivities begin with breakfast at 8am.
There will be a car show, frees kids’ games, duck races, food, beer garden, silent auction, live music.

· The Bicycle Advisory Committee of the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Facilities Joint Powers Authority will meet July 13 from 9-11am in the downstairs conference room at Lake Tahoe Airport.
· El Dorado County will close Green Valley Road in Placerville from El Dorado Road to Mallard Lane starting June 22, reopening July 2. This closure is necessary to construct the roadway approaches to the bridge, including drainage systems, and connections to adjacent residential driveways. Access will be provided for residents and property owners within the closure limits. Through traffic will not be permitted between El Dorado Road and Mallard Lane.
· The Highway 50-Silva Valley Parkway interchange on the West Slope is now open.
