There will be a medicinal plant walk at Sorensen’s Resort in Hope Valley on July 3.

Kimball Chatfield, medical botanist and doctor of Oriental medicine, will lead the walk in hunt for plants including wild arnica, St. John’s Wort, various types of mint, wild blueberries, currants, yarrow, roses, wild onions and more.

Chatfield is author of “Medicine From the Mountains: Medicinal Plants of the Sierra Nevada”. He will talk about traditional Native American uses as wells as modern findings.

·       There will be a memorial service for longtime Tahoe resident Malcolm Pribyl on July 17 at 3pm at the Meadow on Chinquapin Drive on the outskirts of South Lake Tahoe. Pribyl died on Jan. 19.

·       The fireworks display on the South Shore that is shot off near Edgewood Tahoe on July 4 will start at 9:45pm.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe is providing breakfast and lunch for free to all youth 18 and younger now through Aug. 26.

The program is funded through the Summer Food Service Program, a USDA/CDE program.

The purpose of the program is to ensure children receive a healthy meal during the summer when school is out.
