Nevada law enforcement agencies statewide will be focusing on distracted drivers from July 22-Aug. 6.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be working diligently to urge motorists to keep their eyes on the road and put away cell phones or other items that cause distractions.

“Five seconds is the average time your eyes are off the road while texting. When traveling at 55 mph, that’s enough time to cover the length of a football field blindfolded,” deputies said in a press release.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s, in 2014 in the United States 3,179 people were killed, and 431,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers.

With several major proposed projects in the North Lake Tahoe area still moving through the review process, the Placer County Board of Supervisors moved the quarterly Tahoe meeting in July to Sept. 13.

The board will meet July 26 in Auburn.

The Martis Valley West Specific Plan Project will be on the September agenda. That meeting will be at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach.

The Village at Squaw Valley project is scheduled for consideration by the Placer County Planning Commission Aug. 11 in a morning meeting in eastern Placer County, with the exact location still to be determined.

That evening, the North Tahoe Regional Advisory Council will have its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at 6pm at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach.

El Dorado County Teen Court is looking for students in grades 8 to 12 to participate in the juvenile justice system.

Training will be conducted on Aug. 17 from 6-8pm in El Dorado County Superior Court, 495 Main St. in Placerville. Students should arrive no later than 5:30pm and dress in courtroom attire. Preregistration is not required.

After completing this training, teens will serve as court personnel for real cases in which a minor has committed an offense, admitted to that offense and chosen to be judged by his or her peers.

Teen Court hearings are September through May on scheduled Wednesday nights.

The East Shore Express is one way to avoid dealing with parking or traffic at Sand Harbor.

Drop offs and parking are no longer permitted along Highway 28 near Sand Harbor. And walk-ins are not allowed to the beach.

The bus runs every 20 minutes from 10am-7pm through Sept. 5.

Cost is $3 round trip, which includes entry into Sand Harbor. Exact fare is required.

Truckee Tahoe Airport District officials will be conducting six meetings starting next week in order to share updates on airport operations, impacts on each neighborhood, and plans to address those impacts.

Topics will include the recently completed Airspace Study, plans for a temporary seasonal air traffic control tower, neighborhood-specific issues, and general information about the airport.

The seasonal, temporary air traffic control tower, planned for summer 2017, would give the district more control over approaching and departing aircraft, directing them to paths that could also improve safety and noise impacts.

All meetings will start at 6pm and last about one hour.
