·       Casey Blann is now vice president of mountain operations at Alpine Meadows. In addition to managing operations at the ski resort, Blann will oversee risk management and loss prevention for Alpine and Squaw Valley.

·       Tahoe Blue Vodka is donating $5,000 to support the League to Save Lake Tahoe’s beach cleanups. The donation was a matching gift, which enabled the League to raise an additional $5,000 from community members.

The Food Bank of El Dorado is having a free farmers market on July 27 from 10-11am.

The distribution will be in the parking lot of the American Legion Hall, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

The Food Bank is in need of 10-15 volunteers that day from 9:30-11:30am to distribute emergency supplemental groceries to those in need. Volunteers will assist in handing out food and signing people in.

Expect traffic delays on Pioneer Trail on the South Shore as overhead lines are put underground.

Approximately 5,800 feet of power lines from Liberty Utilities as well as communication lines owned by AT&T and Charter Communications are being relocated underground along Pioneer Trail from Black Bart Court to south of Golden Bear Trail. The work is expected to continue through mid-October, and will be completed next year.

The California Public Utilities Commission requires an electric utility to provide undergrounding allocations each year for converting overhead power lines to underground power lines. Eligible areas eliminate unusually heavy concentrations of overhead lines, involve a street or road with a high volume of public traffic, benefit a civic or public recreation area or area of unusual scenic interest or are listed as an arterial street or major collector.

·       South Lake Tahoe has resurrected its battalion division in the fire department. Jim Drennan, Tim Spencer and Karl Koeppen now have the title of battalion chief.

·       El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program is looking for volunteers to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens. Each volunteer generally works one day each week to an assigned route, delivering meals between 10:30am and noon. For more info, call 530.621.6160.

·       For the first time in three years, the Thunderbird will be in the water. The vessel will be at the South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic at the Tahoe Keys Marina in South Lake Tahoe on July 29-30.

·       One-way traffic controls for pavement rehabilitation work on Highway 89 between Squaw Valley Road and West River Street in Truckee are anticipated to result in traffic delays. Pavement grinding work will take place from 6am-5pm through July 21.

Jill Brigham, executive director of the UC Davis Sustainable Wine & Food Processing Center, is coming to Tahoe to talk about the science of wine and the technologies developed for sustainable wine production.

The program will begin at 6pm on Aug. 24, with refreshments and no-host bar from 5:30-6pm at 291 Country Club Drive in Incline Village. This is on the campus of Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village..
