South Lake Tahoe’s Services Center located at 1052 Tata Lane will be undergoing exterior modifications through Sunday.

The center is open during this time.

Work will start on the parking lot and walkway. Some parking will be blocked for construction. Customers may park across the street in the overflow lot or on the street.

The lobby of Lake Tahoe Airport is undergoing an overhaul. All offices are open there as well, including city and other businesses.

·       The South Lake Tahoe Library will host Mad Science on July 29. The free outdoor show starts at 2pm at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. Mad Science will be performing the show Fire and Ice, which demonstrates chemical reactions, bubbling potions and more.

·       Tahoe Brew Tours of South Lake Tahoe takes people to three craft breweries between Incline Village and South Lake Tahoe for $99. This covers tastings at each brewery, appetizers at one, and a bus equipped with water, snacks and a cooler for growlers.

Slow Food Lake Tahoe is putting on a tour of local, High Sierra edible gardens on Aug. 13 from 9am-2pm.

Sites range from beginner container garden to a high production permaculture greenhouse.

The tour will begin and end at the Truckee Demonstration Garden located at the Truckee Regional Park.  A variety of Truckee home gardens in Sierra Meadows, Olympic Heights and Prosser will be visited with light refreshments at each stop.

Tickets may be purchased online; $10 for adults and no charge for children. Check in will begin at 8:30am at the Truckee Demonstration Garden.

·       Ehrman Mansion on the West Shore is having a living history day on July 30. There will be family lawn games, open house tours, children’s activity zone, blue grass music, a car show, an art exhibit, and an auction. All events are free from 11am-4pm.

·        “Up” (rated PG) will be shown July 30 at 2pm in the Minden Library meeting room.  The movie and popcorn are free. The Minden Library is located at 1625 Library Lane.

·       South Lake Tahoe is offering users of the Heavenly Village garage the opportunity to set up an online account to pay for a monthly or annual pass.

·        Sugar Cane Experience + Moonbase will be playing July 28 at Lakeview Commons. The free concert is from 4:30-8:30pm.

The Meyers Community Foundation is seeking grant applications to fund projects that enhance and enrich the community of Meyers.

The grant process involves submitting a short application and attending a board meeting to make a presentation.

The MCF was founded in 2011 by three Meyers residents and business owners who were looking for ways to build community and improve Meyers. The organization received 501(c)3 status in 2014 and has since expanded to a six-person volunteer board.

The group began with a holiday tree lighting and Santa drop, which is now an annual event. Other events include a fall gear swap and this year’s inaugural OMG Fun Run on the Old Meyers Grade.

Proceeds generated by the MCF-sponsored events fund the grants; general donations are also accepted year-round and are tax deductible.

Traffic along Highway 89 between Squaw Valley Road and Cabin Creek Road in Truckee will be slow today through July 28.

Caltrans is paving in the area. Grinding work will take place from 7am-5pm each day.

Approximately one-half mile of one way traffic controls will occur as work progresses along the 5-mile long work zone.

·       Caltrans is warning motorists to anticipate traffic delays from July 26-28 from 7:30am-4pm on westbound Interstate 80 just west of the Nevada state line for roadway maintenance activities.

·       Sherry Guzzi from Sierra Wildlife Coalition will be talking about beavers at Taylor Creek Visitor Center on the South Shore on July 29 at 8:30pm. A $5 donation benefits the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

·       Whittell High School senior Scott Harrison received the $5,000 Gene Upshaw Scholarship on the final day of the ACC golf tournament. NBC Sports and Edgewood Companies honor a local student who has performed community service, is a leader and has academic excellence.

·       The Finance Division of Douglas County was awarded a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

·       Smoke in the Tahoe basin and Truckee areas on July 25 is from the distant fires in Monterey County and Santa Clarita. No fires are burning locally. A strike team from Tahoe is on its way Monday to Monterey.
