North Tahoe Public Utility District is going forward with new restrooms at North Tahoe Regional Park.

It will cost $140,634 for two pre-fabricated restrooms. The completed buildings are expected to be delivered in October.

Grants from Placer County Parks Dedication Fees and internal NTPUD recreation funds are paying for the facilities.

They will replace the existing new restrooms that are more than 30 years old and do not meet current code or Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

·       The Alzheimer’s Association is putting on a family caregiver support program on Oct. 10. This training will address the 10 signs of Alzheimer’s disease. Participants will learn what is involved in getting a diagnosis, risk associated with Alzheimer’s and the benefits of early detection. The free event is from 1-3pm at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel in South Lake Tahoe.

·       The annual Lake Tahoe Summit start time on Aug. 31 has changed to 1:30pm, with access to Harveys starting at 11:30am.

·       Kenny Neal will play at the Squaw Valley Village on Sept. 6 at 6pm.

·       Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is having two workshops about the shoreline ordinances. The first is Sept. 21 at North Tahoe Events Center in Kings Beach, the second is at the TRPA offices in Stateline on Nov. 3. Both are from 6-8pm.

·       Whiskey Dicks in South Lake Tahoe is hosting an evening of Outlaw Country with the Supersuckers, plus Cash Only Band on Sept. 2. Doors open at 9pm. Must be 21. Advance tickets are $15 online.

Truckee Lutheran Presbyterian Church is hosting a communitywide Sept. 11 Commemoration & Thanksgiving event on Sept. 11 at 11:30am at Truckee River Regional Park.

TLPC’s leadership will host an opportunity for the community to come together to remember and honor those who died and those who served 15 years ago. As a part of the remembrance, TLPC will honor today’s first responders.

Speakers will include Truckee council members, police officers, firefighters and school district personnel. Boy Scout Troop 267 will present the colors and a group from the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus will lead singing.

The Nevada Division of State Lands is offering grants for projects that will preserve and restore the natural environment of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Approximately $350,000 generated from the purchase of Nevada Lake Tahoe License Plates will be available. Proposals that include the implementation of construction projects listed on the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s five-year environmental improvement program list will be prioritized in this funding cycle.

Since the first license plate was purchased in 1998, the Tahoe License Plate Program has generated $7.6 million and funded 141 projects.

·       The 9th annual K9 Trials are Sept. 10 at 9am at Lakeview Commons in South Lake Tahoe.

·       Douglas County Search and Rescue is looking for individuals to participate in its fall academy and join its team. Applications are online and are due Aug. 26.

·       The Truckee Town Council at its Aug. 25 meeting is expected to appoint David Tirman and Jessica Abrams to the council. This is instead of having an election in November since they were they only two candidates.

·       Fire Fest is Sept. 24 at Lake Tahoe Airport from 10am-3pm.

South Lake Tahoe is putting on a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Sept. 15 from 5-7:30pm at  Lakeview Commons.

There will be a live local band and light refreshments. Craft tables will be set up to make thank you cards and posters for all agencies.

This is a multiagency event with California Highway Patrol, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, FBI, SLEDNET, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and U.S. Forest Service.

·       The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge’s 15th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby is Sept. 18 at Tahoe Paradise’s Lake Baron. It is free to those 16 and younger. Registration begins at 7am.

·       El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel is hosting a meeting Aug. 22 from 6-7pm to discuss the results of a survey regarding the county owned park on Forebay Road. The meeting will be in the “Lodge” at the park, 5581 Gail Drive, Pollock Pines.

The Food Bank of El Dorado County will be in South Lake Tahoe to host a free farmers market and mobile food pantry distribution on Aug. 24 from 10-11am at the American Legion Hall.

One allocation per household will be given out. This is for people who are struggling to make ends meet, live in El Dorado County and meet the state income guidelines.

Mt. Tallac High School is welcoming more than just students on Aug. 29, the first day of school.

There will be a meet and greet from 10:30-11:30am. The idea is to have students meeting potential employers and other community members, and for adults to interact with the students.

The continuation school is integrating worth ethic and career planning into its curriculum. The goal is for students to be able to join the workforce now or after graduation if college is not their choice.

Mt. Tallac is near the far end of South Tahoe High School’s football field; with easiest access off 13th Street.
