A fundraiser for the animals affected by the Japanese earthquake and tsunami will be April 3 from 11am-5pm.

The event is at Tahoe Best Friends – 2179 Ruth Ave., South Lake Tahoe.

Bring your dog and your family for portraits and fun.

A $40 donation includes a 10-minute portrait session and an 8×10 print.

All profits will go to the Japanese Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support Group.

The El Dorado County Library in South Lake Tahoe will celebrate National Library Week by giving away a NOOKcolor, e-book reader at 10am on April 16.

The drawing will be held during the demonstration of OverDrive, the library’s new software that allows you to check out downloadable e-books and audio books on a variety of devices.

Lake Tahoe Community Colleges’ Haldan Gallery is hosting the closing reception for Black & White Photography by Jim Hildinger on March 20 from 2-4pm.

Silver gelatin fine art prints, some framed, some matted are available as well as Hildinger’s book “Tahoe in Black and White”.

This is a silent auction to benefit the Haldan Gallery with photography donated by Hildinger.

Refreshments will be served and final bids entertained.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District’s Performing Arts Program will present Spring String Fling Concert on March 23 at 7pm in the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room.

The concert will feature more than 100 students in grades 4-12.

The concert is free, although donations will be gladly accepted at the door to help the LTUSD string program.

Local author and youth advocate Kim Gayner will be discussing her new young adult book “Reality 101: A Must Have Guide to Life & Life Skills Survival Manual” a the South Lake Tahoe library.

The free event is April 13 at 6:30pm.

On July 30 from 10am-4pm, Lake of the Sky Garden Club will host its 23rd annual garden tour, the 2011 Truckee Garden Tour. Proceeds from this tour will fund scholarships to encourage study in landscaping, horticulture, forestry or environmental science and up to $6,000 in grants to local community projects.

Last year’s Lake Tahoe West Shore Garden Tour sold out at 500 tickets.

The Lake Tahoe Basin Federal Advisory Committee is meeting March 31 from 10am-4pm at the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management office, 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe.

LTFAC will address issues related to federal activities at Lake Tahoe. Items on the agenda include a Tahoe Working Group presentation on the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act Round 12 capital project nominations and science themes, followed by a public comment period.

LTFAC consists of 20 members representing a broad array of constituencies.

Susan Frailey, a registered nurse in South Lake Tahoe and author of “More Alive Now: Simple Nutrition to Change Your Life,” will be joining fellow faculty members speaking at the University of Nevada School of Medicine 18th Annual Alimentary Update.

Frailey will be speaking on “Innovative Nutrition for Gastrointestinal Health” and “Colon Hydrotherapy: Applications for Gastroenterology” on March 25 at 9am at Harveys in Stateline.
