The 5th annual South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic is July 27-28 at the Tahoe Keys Marina and Yacht Club in South Lake Tahoe.

North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and Plumas Bank in partnership with the Small Business Development Center of Greater Sacramento/Sierra are offering Marketing Research on April 10, 9am to noon at the Tahoe City Public Utility District Board Room, 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City.

The workshop is geared for existing and emerging business owners. Attendees will learn the overview of the “4-P’s” of marketing, demographic and psychographic data along with industry trends.

This workshop will be followed by a series of interactive SBDC sessions that will highlight Financial Projections (April 24) and Business Plan Components (May 8), which will discuss legal structure and operation.

The workshops are free for North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce members, $25/person for business association members and $50/person for the general public.

Sugar Pine Foundation is having a fund-raiser event at the Eagles Nest Lounge at the top of Kingsbury Grade on April 19 from 6-10pm.

This family event will feature a chili cook off, music, a raffle, and activities for the kids. Proceeds to benefit the Sugar Pine Foundation’s mission to save the sugar pine and other white pines from Eurasian white pine blister rust.

Tahoe Legends 10K/5K Run is June 16 at 8am starting in the Lake Tahoe Community College parking area.

The 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer runs snake through rolling hills, forests and meadows on single track trails and bike paths. Competitors start at LTCC and finish on the track at the South Tahoe Community Sports Complex.

The Tahoe Legends Challenge also pits local fitness clubs in head to head competition for the Fast and Fit Trophy.

It’s open to ages 8-14 or third- to eighth-graders.

Is your child a bully or being bullied?

There will be a training class April 16 from 5:30-8:30pm at Lake Tahoe Community College in the board room to help stop bullying.

Techniques will be provided to empower youth with methods to deal with put downs and bullying, diffuse conflicts with their peers, along with preventative methods for cyber bullying. Adolescent development will be covered.

The South Lake Tahoe Optimist Club will be hosting the annual Easter egg hunt on April 7 at Lake Tahoe Community College.

The hunt begins at 11am sharp.

An bonnet contest and costume parade are part of the festivities.

This free event is for infants to age 11.

Combine an Easter egg hunt with an avalanche beacon search practice session, and the result is the fifth annual Beacon and Eggs beacon search contest at Alpine Meadows.

This event is organized by Alpine’s ski patrol and takes place on Easter Sunday, April 8. Not only is it a fun, free event for all ages, but it also raises avalanche awareness and is an opportunity to practice search and rescue techniques.

Avalanche beacons are buried in a 1-acre area at Alpine Meadows and competitors proceed to the buried treasure using their beacons in “search” mode. Competitors work individually or in teams (up to four people) to recover the beacons.

Free registration is at the Beacon & Eggs tent near the top of Subway chairlift (next to the base lodge) from 9-11am. The Le Mans-style start is at noon near the top of the Subway beginner lift, adjacent to the base lodge. Competitors must provide their own beacons, probes, and shovels, and lift ticket.
