Douglas County Community Development Department is having a workshop May 12 from 5:30-7pm to review the goals and policies of the master plan regional and community plans. The meeting is at Kahle Community Center, Stateline. More information is online.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has hired professional trail and bike park designers Hilride to work with trail users to create a plan for improving the Corral Trail. The Corral Trail is a popular multi-use trail on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore that is popular with mountain bikers and open to dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles as well.

The first opportunity to participate in the redesign will be a workshop facilitated by Hilride on April 28, from 6-8pm at 35 College Drive, South Lake Tahoe. This meeting will be an information-gathering session at which trail users will be able to describe their interests and identify what types of experiences they are seeking.

On June 11, National Get Outdoors Day, Hilride will lead a design workshop on the trail after a brief session at the Forest Supervisor’s Office. More details on the on-site workshop will follow.

Generation HOPE and Friends of Ally clubs at Lake Tahoe Community College are bringing “Bullied, A Student, a School, and a Case that Made History” to the South Lake Tahoe campus.

The documentary narrates the story of a student who, because of his sexual orientation, was the subject of unrelenting bullying by his classmates. This film will be presented with Spanish subtitles.

It will be shown April 29 at 6:30pm in the Duke Theatre. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door.

All proceeds from this movie will go toward scholarships for college students.

Harveys Lake Tahoe and Another Planet Entertainment are bringing Alison Krauss & Union Station to stage July 10.

Krauss’ most recent triumph, the certified-platinum Raising Sand, her 2007 collaboration with Robert Plant and producer T Bone Burnett, notched up a total of six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Song of the Year.

Krauss has released 11 albums, appeared on numerous soundtracks, and helped renew interest in bluegrass music in the United States. Her soundtrack performances have led to further popularity, including the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, an album also credited with raising American interest in bluegrass. Her 27 Grammy Awards make her the most awarded female artist, the most awarded singer, and tied for the second most awarded artist overall in Grammy history.

An opening act for Alison Krauss & Union Station will be announced later.

The seminar is geared for owners and managers of hotels, motels, condominiums and vacation homes, and will assist properties in increasing their visibility in domestic and international markets, increasing occupancy and online booking presence, and how best to utilize North Lake Tahoe Resort Association member benefits. New Balance/Girls on the Run 5K and 10K Fun Run is June 5 at 9am at Truckee River View Sports Park, 12200 Joerger Drive, off Soaring Way.

Cost for 5K is $20; families of four (two adults, two kids) $50; online preregistration for the 10K is $30. On race day, 5K is $25 and 10K is $35. Youths age 5-12 are $10 preregistered, $15 event day.

Mont Hubbard will present two research projects involving bicycles being developed at the UC Davis Sports Biomechanics Laboratory.

The event is at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences 291 Country Club Drive, Incline Village, on May 12 at 5:30.

One project addresses fundamental questions of balance and rider control. Using special bicycles that have been augmented with scientific instruments and techniques previously used in Aeronautics, researchers at UC Davis are studying how human “pilots” intuitively control bicycles.
