There is a new ride coming to town on June 11 that challenges kids and families alike. It will be quite different than the other big rides for hardcore cyclists in the area.

As part of this year’s “Alta Alpina Challenge: Riding the Wild Sierra” cycling event, the Alta Alpina Cycling Club is organizing a fun, non-competitive ride for people of all ages. Designed to accommodate cyclists of all abilities, the course will allow riders to experience the scenic beauty of the Sierra foothills along the popular road riding area of Diamond Valley. Options for the ride range from 15 to 20 miles.

The Alta Alpina Challenge: Riding the Wild Sierra is a cycling event which encompasses five distinct rides: The Family Fun Ride is a ride aimed at local individuals and families along with the companions of cyclists participating in one of the other rides. There is also a metric century, century, five pass challenge and “The World’s Toughest Double Century”, the eight-pass challenge.

Suzanne Roberts’ book launch party for “Three Hours to Burn a Body: Poems on Travel” is June 17 at 6:30pm. Also, being celebrated is the opening of the photography show “Faces,” featuring some of her travel photographs from around the world.

The event at Bona Fide Books includes a short poetry reading, book signing, drinks, appetizers, tribal belly dancers, and more.

Bona Fide Books is located in Meyers at 1069 Magua St., No. 4, behind the Getaway Café.

Kids Day Tahoe is May 21 from 11am-3pm. The event will provide essential information on health, child safety, and environmental awareness.

Many local businesses will be present with activities for the children.

Joshua Welch will provide free health screenings, and will be distributing vital information on disease prevention and health promotion.

North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce’s 25th Annual Business Expo is June 15 from 5-7:30pm at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 North Tahoe Blvd., Kings Beach.

Prizes, raffles and merchandise values will be available at this interactive community event. The expo also offers free admission, along with free parking, for attendees, food and beverages, and is open to chamber and non-chamber members.

The artisan winemaking families of Fair Play are putting on the 27th Annual Fair Play Wine Festival June 4-5 from 11am to 5pm.

The 17 participating wineries are planning festivities, including gourmet fare paired with Fair Play wines, live music, barrel tasting, art, demonstrations, wine specials, and much more.
