The recreation JPA will meet June 30 at 9am at the El Dorado County Library to make a final decision on whether to place a measure on the ballot that would alter how Measure S funds are allocated.

The Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition and Norma Santiago, El Dorado County supervisor, are hosting a public information session about the possible November ballot measure to redirect existing recreation funds from Measure S.

The meeting is June 16 from 5-7pm in the Cedar Room of the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center on Rufus Allen Boulevard.

The proposed measure would allow accumulating Measure S funds to be used for rehabilitation of older bike paths and build youth ball fields. It would also create a bicycle advisory committee to advise the Community Facilities District Recreation Joint Powers Authority, the body which administers the Measure S funds, on bicycle needs in the community.

The meeting will be an informal, drop-in event. Attendees will have the opportunity to get copies of the proposed ballot measure language and resolution for consideration, ask questions of the JPA board members (which there are three) and JPA staff (which is just John Upton), and learn how to provide additional input on the proposed ballot measure.

The JPA will meet June 30 at 9am at the El Dorado County Library to make a final decision on whether to place the measure on the ballot.

North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District IAFF Local No. 2139 Incline Village and Crystal Bay firefighters are putting on the 2nd annual Firefighters’ Poker Pedal June 25.

Event registration begins at 1pm at Great Basin Brewery, 5525 South Virginia St., Reno.

The event raises funds for Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation.

The ride starts at 2pm. Registration is $20 online or $25 on day of the event.

The 9-mile loop starts at Great Basin Brewery and riders will stop in to pick up a poker card at each participating eatery and breweries – Clary’s Bar & Grill, Ceol Irish Pub, Foley’s and Silver Peak Restaurant complete the hand.

Black Rock Bicycles is donating a cruiser bike for the winning male and female poker hands and there will be additional raffle items to keep it interesting.

No bike? No problem. Black Rock Bicycles will be on site with bicycles for rent. Rentals will be $20 per preregistered rider.

ADA 101 for Businesses is a panel board consisting of a lawyer experienced in ADA lawsuits, certified access specialists, insurance broker knowledgeable in what insurance companies will cover and a disabled member of the public.

The June 15 10am-noon event put on by South Lake Tahoe will include:

· Discussing the priorities of accessibility and what the state and feds require.

· Explaining what a unreasonable hardship is and when it can be applied.

· Clearing up myths on who needs to comply with accessibility requirements.

· Having the attorney discuss how to handle a lawsuit, proper procedure on how to respond, costs associated with a suit, lease agreements.

· The insurance agent will discuss on what most companies will cover in a lawsuit and the improvements.

· How to interpret a CASp Report and how to use it.

· Clarifying TRPA coverage issues in dealing with ADA upgrades.

Lake Tahoe Labor Day Classic Baseball Tournament is Sept. 2 starting at 3pm. It ends a noon Sept. 5.

The tournament is for ages 10u,12u,and 18u.

The Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation will honor retirees from the Lake Tahoe Unified School District at the regular school board meeting June 14 at 6pm in the board room at the district office on Highway 50 at Al Tahoe Boulevard.

Retirees are invited to bring guests. They will be recognized and presented with gift ertificates to Passaretti’s Restaurant.

The LTEF will host a cake and punch reception on the lawn outside the meeting room.

The 2011 Quiksilver Ta-Hoe Nalu Stand-Up Paddle Classic is Aug. 13-14 in Kings Beach.

Lake Tahoe is the largest stand up flat-water paddleboard venue in the country, and the sport continues to gain in popularity with a recent increase in Tahoe rental shops and outfitters, as well as festivals taking center stage during the summer and fall months.

New to the Ta-Hoe Nalu this summer is the Ta-Hoe Nalu Stand Up Paddleboard Experience, which invites beginners to learn how to paddle from an elite athlete and then go on a guided tour with them. A $30 fee per person includes demo board, paddle instruction, guided tour, event T-shirt and lunch ticket.

The Sugar Pine Foundation is planting sugar pine seedlings in Truckee June 11 from 10am-noon.

South Tahoe High School’s  Sober Grad Night is June 10 from 9pm to 4am June 11 at the Heavenly California Lodge.

There will be music, dancing, games, a magician, crafts, raffles, food and more.

Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus (Toccata) launches its 6th Big Blue Summer Music Fest with a concert series entitled Baroque to Broadway.

Flutist Josue Casillas will be the featured guest along with the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and vocal soloists. Works by C.P.E. Bach, Vivaldi, and Barber will be performed along with Broadway favorites, spirituals and patriotic songs.

Concerts are July 2 at 7pm at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church in Incline Village; July 3 at 3pm at St. Theresa Catholic Church in South Lake Tahoe; and July 5 at 7pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Cathedral in Reno. The Reno concert is part of the Artown festival.
