Local author Kim Gayner will be signing and discussing her book “Reality 101: A Must Have Guide to Life & Life Skills Survival Manual” at Ski Run Marina in South Lake Tahoe on July 27 at 6pm.
This is part of the Midweek at the Marina events each Wednesday.

An event to raise money to find a missing South Lake Tahoe woman is scheduled for July 24 fro 5-8pm at Classic Cue, 1961 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Tahoe.
On July 1, Marie Hanson left with her neighbors to go to the annual Rainbow Gathering near Stevenson, Wash. The last tim she was seen at the gathering was July 6 or July 7. Her neighbors lost track of her and returned to Tahoe without her, bringing her camping gear, her wallet, phone and medicines home with them.
Hanson is still missing. She is a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who is active in her church and community.
A website has been set up to help get the word out.
The money raised from the event will go to hiring a private investigator.
The Village at Squaw Valley will pair cold beers with hot music at the 10th Annual Brews, Jazz and Funk Fest to support the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.
Some of the most recognized jazz and funk legends will perform under the peaks of Squaw Valley Aug. 13-14 from 2-8pm in The Village at Squaw Valley.
Festival-goers can listen to continuous live music on two stages while sampling beers from more than 20 breweries including Big Sky, Deschutes, Eel River, Feather Falls, Fossil Fuels, Franziskaner, Full Sail, Gordon Biersch, Great Basin, Lagunitas, Lockdown, Mad River, Mammoth, Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, Spaten, Stone, Sudwerks, and Trumer. Beers are $4 each. A $5 entry donation to the festival is requested. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.
The festival is open to all ages with well behaved dogs welcome on leashes.
Kids can enjoy activities such as an 18-hole miniature golf course, sky jump bungee trampoline or ride the scenic aerial Cable Car to play paintball, swim, roller skate and hike at High Camp. For activity pricing, check out Squaw’s website.

Nevada State Parks invites the public to a day of free presentations on the Emigrant Trail at Mormon Station State Historic Park on July 23.
The outdoor presentations is form 10am-5pm.
Each presentation will be approximately 45 minutes, with time for questions.
Visitors are asked to bring lawn chairs and a beverage. Dogs will not be allowed.

Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa is a 20 minute drive from Carson City via Highway 395 and 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe via Kingsbury Grade and Foothill Road.
The Truckee Regional Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention Program and the Tahoe Resource Conservation District ) invite the public to a meeting July 28 from 5:30-6:30pm to learn about aquatic invasive species prevention and get involved with future program development.
AIS pose a real and continuous environmental and economic threat to the Truckee region and its watershed. Prevention efforts are being aimed at halting the introduction of harmful aquatic species, as well as properly educating the public on the tangible threats AIS are posing to the Truckee area.
Brief presentations will focus on aquatic invasive species prevention and control efforts in the Truckee River Watershed. Program representatives will cover an analysis of the risks posed by AIS threatening the Truckee area, a history of AIS in the Truckee region, efforts which have been undertaken to address the spread of AIS in the Truckee area, as well as additional prevention programs in California and throughout the nation.
A public input segment will follow where citizens may emphasize where they would like to see prevention efforts focused.

Embark on an adventure with the legendary King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot and a host of others on July 23 as the Missoula Children’s Theatre and 50 local students present “King Arthur’s Quest” at the Lake of the Sky Amphitheater at the Taylor Creek Visitor’ Center on the South Shore at 2pm.
This production is part of the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s unique international touring project and is presented locally by Tahoe Arts Project.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Tahoe Youth & Family Service’s celebrates 40 years on July 23 from noon-5pm at the Gardnerville Drop In Center in the Ranchos.
There will be a family barbecue, popcorn, cotton candy, ice cream cones and bounce house.
Tahoe Youth & Family Services is saying thank you to the community for 40 years of support with an event in the parking lot at the Red Hut on Ski Run Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.
Free ice cream cones, popcorn, cotton candy and a bounce house will be part of the party on July 21 from 2:30-6:30pm.

The Squaw Valley Community of Writers brings an Extraordinary Evening of Poetry to Squaw Valley on July 21. The night will consist of a poetry reading by the five award-winning staff poets: Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Hass, Brenda Hillman, Cathy Park Hong, Major Jackson and Sharon Olds.
The event begins at 8pm at Bar One in Olympic House at Squaw.
The cost is $15 general, $10 students.
