The inaugural Climbing Festival & Bouldering Competition in Meyers is Sept. 17.
Joshua Welch of Safe Haven Chiropractic in Meyers is spearheading the event so people can watch and learn about the beauty and athleticism of playing on granite.
He says Lake Tahoe bouldering has exploded in the last few years.
The event is free to attend,with a small fee to compete.
Many climbs will be included in the contest ranging from 5.6 to V10 and beyond. Limited guides will be included in the competition format. The contest is for all ability levels. More than $2,000 in prizes will be awarded.
The free climbing festival starts at 2pm. Get some food, check out climbing booths and meet the athletes. Listen to great music and hang out in the beer garden.
The awards ceremony starts at 4pm, with a bouldering demo competition at 5pm.

The 4th annual John Reichert Memorial Classic Car Show will be Sept. 10 from 1-3:30pm at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area.
This event is free and open to the public; both spectators and those who wish to show their cars. This event is organized and presented by the Kiwanis Club of North Lake Tahoe and sponsored by Taneva Auto Parts.
John Reichert was a member of the North Tahoe Public Utility District Recreation and Parks Commission who passed away in 2008 and was involved in the development of the Friends of the Park Fund. This fund goes to support capital projects in the North Tahoe Regional Park. A BBQ benefiting the North Tahoe Public Utility District Friends of the Park Fund will also take place during the show.

Food Fest — Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation’s fund raiser — is Oct. 8 at 6pm at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe in Stateline.
Volunteers are needed to help with a MTB designed and built trail on Sept. 2 in Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park.
The Marlette Hobart link trail will be three miles of flowy singletrack from the Tahoe Rim Trail to the bottom of Sunflower Hill. It’s more than halfway done.
The completed upper section will be used by the Great Tahoe Flume Race on Sept. 10.
Meet at the Lakeview gate at 8am to carpool up to the work site. The Lakeview gate is at the end of Hobart Road off of Old 395 in Washoe Valley/Carson City.
Wear long pants, long sleeves, gloves, and bring water and a lunch.
Work will end about 3:30pm.

UC Davis volunteer David Long has a variety of activities planned for kids ages 6 and up at the fish hatchery in Tahoe City on Aug. 27 from 10am-2pm.
Activities include:

• Discover native fauna and macroinvertebrates
