South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its fifth birthday May 24 at Lake Tahoe Golf Course in Meyers.

No host cocktails and meet-greet will be an hour starting at 5:30pm, with dinner starting at 6:30pm.

The community is invited to a Mothers’ Day Makeover BAHM on May 10 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Tallac Historic Site. There will be live music, a fashion show by Sidestreet Boutique, appetizers from Harrah’s & Harveys Catering, wine tasting provided by Crystal Basin Cellars & BellaGrace Vineyards, and a cash bar set up by Raising the Bar Beverage Catering.

Cost is $10 for Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce members, and $20 for non-members.

Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra’s annual SeptOberfest fundraiser is Sept. 27 at 6pm at MontBleu in Stateline.

Tickets are $35 — which includes food, wine tasting and beer.

On June 6 at 6:30pm at the South Lake Tahoe branch library there will be a free Trail Talk with the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.

Meet other trail enthusiasts and learn about what the TRTA does from trail building, hiking and youth programs as well as numerous educational opportunities.

The library is at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Roger Rosenberger, noted local wildflower enthusiast, will share his photos of wildflowers found in Sierra and provide tips for identification while motivating people to enjoy nature’s little jewels.

The grand opening of the 16-mile Genoa Trail System is May 12 from 10-11am.

This free event is at the Eagle Ridge Trailhead, located near the green water tank, about 1.8 miles north of Genoa off of Jacks Valley Road on Eagle Ridge Road.

Carson Valley Trails Association member Jeremy Vlcan will brief guests about the new trails.

Informational displays and maps will be available. After the briefing, guests are invited to participate in a 4-mile guided hike from Eagle Ridge to Sierra Canyon.

The Genoa Trail System was funded by a Nevada Division of State Lands Question 1 grant.

Former Random House senior editor and co-author of “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Getting Published”, Jennifer Basye Sander pulls back the curtain to reveal what happens inside the publishing house.

Writers will get an up close understanding of what make publishers tick, how they make their decisions, and how they create ideas in house.

This event at Bona Fide HQ on May 17 from 6-8pm is free and open to the public.

Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation’s annual Celebration of Education is May 16 from 4:30-6:30pm at Lakeland Village Lakefront Room.

Besides honoring the retirees, there will be a presentations of the 2011-12 enrichment programs sponsored through grants given by the foundation. All schools are represented.

Music is performed by students, and appetizers prepared and served by the South Tahoe High School Culinary Arts students.
