The Employee Communication Committee at South Tahoe Public Utility District is sponsoring a candidate forum for the candidates for the board of directors on Oct. 12 from 7-8:30pm.

Tahoe Best Friends is hosting a Dog Howl’oween Party and Parade on Oct. 29 at 2:30pm at 2197 Ruth Ave. (off Third Street) in South Lake Tahoe. Dogs and humans should come in costume.

Aberrations await and spirits will linger throughout the historic district of Carson City during the 19th annual Classic Ghost Walk on Oct. 22.

Madame Curry, one of the city’s founding ladies, joins a bevy of costumed actors and psychics who provide stories of mystery and intrigue accompany the highly popular theatrical walking tours through Victorian-era historic Carson City. During the guided tour guests will have the opportunity to explore inside various homes from the 1800s.

Tour guides will tell stories about the buildings and their owners of the 1800s Victorian-style homes while walking along the historic 2.5 mile Kit Carson Trail.

Tours begin near the Firkin & Fox Pub on 3rd and Curry streets and depart every half hour from 10am-2pm, rain or shine.

It is for the whole for family, with the first 100 kids getting a free pumpkin courtesy of Corley Ranch.

The actors from “Terror in Tahoe” will be on hand to make the evening fun and spooky.

Twenty percent of the proceeds will benefit the Clean Tahoe Program and the Dinner Table Project.

John Miller from Miller Honey Farms will share insights on the history of honeybees and there will be a screening of “Queen of the Sun: What are the bees telling us?” plus a honey tasting at Cedar House Sport Hotel in Truckee on Oct. 27.

“Queen of the Sun” investigates the dire global bee crisis through biodynamic beekeepers, scientists and philosophers.

Learn about Miller in Hannah Nordhaus’ book “The beekeeper’s lament: How one man and half a million honeybees help feed America.”

Placer County will have a town hall meeting in Kings Beach on Oct. 25 to kick off the process for updating its long-range plans for North Lake Tahoe.

The meeting starts at 6pm at the North Tahoe Event Center, 8318 North Lake Blvd., Kings Beach.

Placer County has nine community plans for the Tahoe basin. Most are joint planning documents developed about 20 years ago by the county and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

TRPA is in the process of updating its Regional Plan, and all community plans within the Lake Tahoe Basin must be consistent with that plan.

Placer County intends to consolidate the nine plans into a single policy document with four planning areas. Each planning area will have its own distinct zoning ordinance and community-specific design guideline standards.

The planning areas are:

* North Tahoe east, which covers Kings Beach and the state line community;

* Greater Tahoe City, which includes Tahoe City, Tahoe City Gateway, Lake Forest, and Dollar Hill;

* North Tahoe west, including Carnelian Bay and Tahoe Vista; and

* West Shore, which includes Sunnyside, Homewood and Tahoma.

The county’s update process involves the Placer County Community Development Resource Agency, Placer County Redevelopment Agency and TRPA.
