The Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus of Sierra College, directed by Susan Horst, Chris Nelson and Tom Acord, will present its holiday concert “Sing Christmas” at the Resort at Squaw Creek on Dec. 10 at 7pm and Dec. 11 at 2pm.

“Sing Christmas” is an eclectic array of delightful, celebratory seasonal music, spanning the globe as well as the centuries. A little gospel, Latino, baroque, and contemporary arrangements are part of the mix.

The chorus will be accompanied by a string ensemble comprised of Tahoe and Reno musicians, and will again bring the kids up for the traditional audience sing-a-long.

Tickets are $15 for adults and may be purchased online, from chorus members, or at the door. Students and children are admitted free. Group rates are also available.

The Incline Firefighters Association along with the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation is having a charity blackjack tournament Dec. 8 at 8pm at the Hyatt in Incline Village.

The tournament is in conjunction with the 16th annual Paramedic Refresher.

A limited number of spots are available on a first come, first serve basis, with all the proceeds directly benefiting the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation.

Cash and other prizes are available for the top finishers.

The Hyatt has donated the space for the tournament and drinks will be provided during playing.

The cost is $40 for conference attendees and $50 for non-conference attendees.

“’Twas the Night Before Christmas” is a special holiday production by Lake Tahoe’s Shining Stars of the Marcia Sarosik Dance Studio.

It returns to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe on Dec. 4 at 1pm and 4pm.

The production, based on the classic holiday poem, made its debut in 2006. The dancers range in age from 2½ to 18.

“Jingle Bell Rock”, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” are some of the favorite holiday songs performed by the dancers.

Excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker” include the Sugarplum Fairy danced by Melissa Jo Marsh, who recently attended the Boston Ballet’s summer intensive. The Snowflakes and the Waltz of the Flowers will be presented by the middle school and advanced ballet students, with younger ballet students performing as angels in the “Magic Toy Shop”.

A Rockettes style kick line in addition to contemporary, lyrical hip hop and tap dances to songs that follow the story are included in the show. Some of the dancers making their stage debut at this event are part of the Shining Stars’ outreach program, which sponsors dance education for students who would otherwise not be able to participate in dance classes and performances.

The high school couples class brings some of South Tahoe High School’s athletes to the stage and the dance class and glee chorus from the high school will also perform.

The proceeds from this year’s productions will benefit organizations that support needy children on the South Shore.

Ticket prices are $12 general admission and $6 for seniors and students. Tickets are available online until Friday afternoon and will be also be available at the door 30 minutes prior to each show.

On Dec. 9 at 6pm Meyers will have its inaugural tree lighting in the Divided Sky/Downtown Café parking lot.

The event is free and open to the public.

The tree will be wrapped in 7,000 warm white lights, and attendees may enjoy hot chocolate, popcorn and entertainment.

Members of Eric Hellberg’s Lake Tahoe Community Rock Ensemble class will be hosting a benefit concert Dec. 9 at 7pm the Lake Tahoe Community College Duke Theater.

In addition to class members, special guest Coherence will be performing.

Markleeville will come alive with all the lights and decorations of Christmas on Dec. 4 from 11am-4pm.

There will be handcrafted gift items, jewelry, pottery, wreaths, pillows, coloring books, and much more, available all over town, in businesses, event on a porch or two.

There will be carolers gathering around the Christmas Tree at the Court House at 1pm for a performance before they stroll around town.

Santa and Mrs. Santa will be in the Wolf Creek Restaurant by the fireplace at 11am.

The General Store has tree cutting permits for $10. There will be cobbler prepared by Little Antelope Pack Station in front of Intero Real Estate.

The Markleeville Art Gallery will have glass ornaments, wool hats, soaps, and jewelry.

The museum will be open and free for the day.

If there is enough snow, there will be a snowshoe tour and people may make a snowman in the park.

At 2pm the Library will have story time, cookie decorating and Santa promises to visit.

Alpenglow Sports’ second installment of its annual Winter Film Series is “Norway’s Wild West” on Dec. 8 at 7pm at the Sawtooth Ridge Café in Tahoe City.

Join Salt Lake City ski mountaineering icon Andrew McLean for a three-part trip to Norway’s Spitsbergen archipelago. Situated in the Arctic Circle, the area provides world-class skiing, trekking, sailing and adventure. Tour through abandoned Russian ghost towns, dodge Polar Bear tracks in the fog, and savor the world’s most expensive snowmobile ride in a land where the sun never sets.

McLean and a host of other ski mountaineers descended on the region in the spring.

The show is free and is designed to motivate, inspire, and educate.

Squaw Valley Institute on Nov. 30 at 6:30pm sponsors the test screening of “Dam California,” an independent feature film created and produced by a team of Tahoe-based filmmakers. It will be shown at the Resort at Squaw Creek. The film is entered in the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
