The fourth annual Mardi Gras Magic Dinner & Dance to benefit Austin’s House is Feb. 17 at the Carson Valley Inn. This fundraiser recreates the party atmosphere of Bourbon Street in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday with food, music, dancing, raffle prizes and a grand prize drawing for a trip to The Big Easy.

The evening starts at 6pm with a cocktail hour. Then feast on a Cajun buffet dinner.

Dancing music is provided by Fabrizio.

Austin’s House is the only emergency children’s shelter in rural Northern Nevada. Austin’s House provides services and care for up to 10 children from infants to age 18.

JoAnn Conner will speak about identity theft, and offer tips on the latest scams on Jan. 13 at 5:30pm at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Conner is a certified identity theft risk management specialist.

It’s time to turn the clock forward one hour as people return to daylight saving time.

The Father Daughter Sweetheart Dance is Feb. 10 from 7-9:30pm at Harveys in Stateline.

This is an evening for fathers and daughters to dance and visit with friends.

Refreshments will be served and a photo keepsake is available for an additional fee.

Watercolorists will explore with artist Joan Hoffman the use of white — when to leave the white paper to make a statement and when to tone the paper an off-white to make the snow glow like Monet’s snow scenes.
