The Tahoe Mountain Milers Running Club is hosting the Fresh Tracks 5K Snowshoe Walk and Race on Feb. 26 at 10am at Camp Richardson Resort.
The beneficiary is the Eric Nageotte-Lowe Scholarship Fund for the Heavenly Freestyle Team.

As part of the 2012 Snowfest, Truckee River Winery is teaming up with High Fives to bring you the inaugural ice carving contest – Wine n’ Ice on March 7 from 1-5pm.
For those interested in competing, entry packets are available at the tasting room. The $100 registration fee covers the cost of a block of ice. The top three contestants will receive an assortment of wine and other gifts, plus win back their entry fee. Entry forms are due back to Truckee River Winery by Feb. 17.
Spectators are welcome. Cover is $20, which includes soup, chili, appetizers and dessert as well as one glass of TRW wine, and a souvenir wine glass. Part of proceeds raised will go to High Fives Foundation.
In addition to the competition, there will be barrel roll races, live music and other outdoor games and entertainment. Guests are encouraged to sport their favorite, most colorful spandex, with prizes awarded to Best Dressed Male, Female, Tandem and Group. All ages welcome..

Join world-renown big wall rock climber Mike Libecki for a journey to some of the most remote corners of the climbing world. Libecki’s search for massive, unclimbed rock formations has taken him to Afghanistan, Antarctica, Yemen, Venezuela, China, and Baffin Island.
Libecki will tell climbing tales at Alpenglow Sports’ fourth and final installment of the annual Lake Tahoe Winter Film Series on Feb. 16.

Alpenglow Sports has partnered with Alpine Meadows Ski Resort for the 5th annual Alpine Touring and Telemark Demo Event on Feb. 11 from 9am-3pm.
The event will provide a forum to perpetuate the enthusiasm for all aspects of in-area and backcountry skiing.
Free to all, the event will showcase the latest and greatest in both telemark and alpine touring equipment. Participating vendors will include Black Diamond, Dynafit, G3, Scarpa, Garmont, Marker, Volkl, DPS, Moment and SkiLogic.

Tahoe Regional Planning Agency Executive Director Joanne Marchetta is hosting a “fireside chat” at Lake Tahoe Community College on Feb. 8 from 6-7:30pm on “21st Century Environmentalism and the Regional Plan Update.”
This is the first of two evening talks on how Marchetta is transitioning the bi-state agency from its once-needed focus on stopping runaway growth and parcel-by-parcel regulation, to one focused on encouraging 21st century environmentalism.
A second talk will take place later this month on the North Shore, with date and time still being worked on.
Heavenly Mountain Resort is teaming up with Nike Snowboarding to host the fifth stop of the Nike Winter Chosen Tour on Feb. 4.
The slopestyle rail jam will take place from 4-7pm on World Cup.
Nike’s Winter Chosen consists of two components: a video crew competition, in which riding and filming crews enter online for a chance to travel to Austria and compete with professional riders and videographers, and the Night Jam, a freestyle slope session featuring production lighting and local and professional snowboarders competing for $5,000 in cash prizes.

She will give her perspective on the U.S. financial crisis and what Washington is doing – or not doing – to help.
