Cycling fitness lecture

Physical therapist Chris Kozlowski will talk about maximizing bike performance on June 6 from 6-7pm at Kahle Community Center in Stateline.

The event is free.

She will talk about increasing pedaling efficiency, proper bike fit benefits, and bike-specific stretching and exercises.

Cycle the Sierra

Cycle the Sierra is an annual cycling event that takes place between the Gold Country and Lake Tahoe. ­

This fully supported, five-day tour starts June 23 and takes riders 300 miles beneath granite peaks, through evergreen forests, into alpine hot springs, to Lake Tahoe, over the fourth highest bridge in the United States, to the site where gold was discovered starting the California Gold Rush, and through numerous unique and historical communities along the way.

Each day is 50-70 miles.

At night cyclists camp under the stars. Camps feature a beer garden, stage with live music, food, massage therapists, yoga sessions, bike mechanics and 300 other cyclists.

Venus Transit viewing

Space Science for Schools in collaboration with Sand Harbor Nevada State Park are sponsoring a free public astronomical viewing of the last Venus Transit of the solar disc this century.

The event in the past was used to establish the size of the Solar System and measurements of the size of the Sun and Venus.

Specially equipped telescopes for solar viewing will be provided by Space Science for Schools to follow this epic event.

The event is June 5 from 5-7pm at Sand Harbor.

Lake Tahoe Lifestyle Festival

Bijou Bash has been renamed Lake Tahoe Lifestyle Festival.

The annual South Lake Tahoe event is now a city and Barton Health event.

The Lake Tahoe Lifestyle Festival mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle and environment for residents and visitors to South Lake Tahoe. Participants can look forward to interactive booths and an overall experience highlighting the outdoors in a fun and festive atmosphere.

Guided hikes, mountain bike skills clinics and fun runs will be some of the activities offered.

The festival will be Sept. 8 from 10am–4pm.

 

 

 

 




Memorial Day ceremonies

There are two places in El Dorado County to recognize those who died in battle fighting for the United States.

One Memorial Day event is at Happy Homestead Cemetery on May 28 at 11am. The other is at the El Dorado County Veterans Monument in Placerville on May 28 at 11am.




Solstice celebration

Meyers is hosting a Summer Solstice Celebration on June 23 from 2-6pm.

This family-centered event is designed to bring together the healing, artistic and recreational cultures of the Lake Tahoe Basin in a community street fair. Activities will include a parade, live music, art cars, food, children’s recreation and booths featuring local artists and healers.

The celebration is free and open to the public.

The theme of the solstice celebration is “fire,” to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Angora Fire and the community’s ability to unite.

Costumes, bicycles, strollers and all non-motorized vehicles will be encouraged around this theme. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and join the 4pm parade at 3170 Highway 50.

Elementary Track & Field Classic

The 8th edition of the South Shore 4-5 Elementary Track & Field Classic is June 5 at at South Tahoe Middle School

This meet will include girls and boys from throughout the region.

In 2011 more than 500 parents and friends witnessed 400 student-athletes compete, with seven meet records broken.

The event is from 4-8pm. The cost is $4 for adults and free to kids.




Spring concert

Lake Tahoe Unified School District’s elementary and middle school spring concerts are May 23.

The free musical events will be in the multipurpose room of South Tahoe Middle School.

Grades 4-6 start at 6pm, and grades 6-8 are at 7:30pm.
