Sierra Mountain Cemetery in Truckee will have a Memorial Day ceremony on May 31 at 10am. The public is welcome to attend. The Civil Air Patrol collects American flags which need to be properly retired.

There will be a public meeting June 3 at 6pm at Hidatsa Court in Lake Valley Fire District to discuss the upcoming fuels reduction project that will be going on in the neighborhood.

Agencies will include CalFire, California Tahoe Conservancy, Lake Valley Fire District and Nevada Fire Safe Council.

Lake Tahoe Unified students in grades 4-8 will perform a variety of light rock and pop music, from jazz and blues to John Williams Superman Theme, 2001 Fanfare and Louie, Louie on May 26.

The free event is at the South Tahoe Middle School multipurpose room. Grades 4-6 perform from 6-6:45pm, while older kids go from 7:30-8:30pm.

Wine country events certainly aren’t a new thing, but the four wineries of Pleasant Valley offer something unique. They celebrate one genre of wines at a festival showcasing the flavors, talent and diversity of Pleasant Valley and El Dorado County.

Festival attendees will visit each winery and taste gourmet foods prepared from local farms expertly paired with their wines. In addition, local artists are on display throughout the festival showcasing their talents.

A “Mountain of Wine” will be raffled off with all proceeds benefiting El Dorado County’s Ag in the Classroom.

It’s called the 7th annual Rocks & Rhones Festival.

The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is offering a Leave No Trace Training for Trainers on June 12–13 in Incline Village and D.L. Bliss State Park.

This training will teach not only Leave No Trace wilderness skills and ethics, but also how to share the knowledge with others including teaching techniques and interactive Leave No Trace activities for all ages.

Leave No Trace is a nationally recognized set of principles designed to encourage wilderness users to walk more lightly on the Earth.

The Leave No Trace Trainer’s Training is geared towards those who would like to take a leadership role in disseminating Leave No Trace principles to others. Appropriate for educators, wilderness professionals, TRTA volunteers, and others.

The course will be an overnight in D.L. Bliss State Park and a $65 donation to the TRTA is encouraged. Dinner and breakfast will be provided.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Gordon will present a three-hour safe driving seminar for teenagers May 22 from 9am to noon.

The class will be at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Minden Station.

The class is free. Students need not reside in Douglas County.

No pre-registration or sign-up necessary, interested teens can just show up.

It is suggested students arrive a few minutes early to accommodate the class starting right at 9am.

Refreshments will be served.

This is an educational seminar for current teen drivers; it is not a driving school for pre-licensed teens.

The 9th annual Water Quality Snapshot Day is May 22 in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Truckee and Reno.

Sponsored by California Trout, Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, UC Cooperative Extension, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Incline Village General Improvement District and the Truckee River Watershed Council, the day is about testing the water quality of Lake Tahoe’s watersheds as well as Pyramid Lake
