The North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and the Sierra Human Resources Association are offering “The Generations and Sexual Harassment” workshop June 23 from 9-11a, at the Cedar House Sport Hotel, 10918 Brockway Road in Truckee.
The workshop, required as per California’s AB1825, brings businesses into compliance regarding sexual harassment in the workplace. The topic is presented in an engaging and provocative way, from the perspective of generations working side-by-side.
The speaker is Laura Moriarty, president of Tahoe Training Partners.
Registration is $50 for North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and SHRA members and $60 for non-members. Seating is limited.

International advocate for water quality and policy Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of renowned pioneer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, will be the featured speaker at the 2010 Siebens Binz—Tahoe Forum at Sierra Nevada College campus on Aug. 28 at 3pm.
Parents are encouraged to bring their kids to this free public event, which will feature an visual and audio presentation highlighting Cousteau’s worldwide journey to educate people about the water issues that affect us all — from Botswana to Lake Tahoe.
The 2010 Siebens Binz—Tahoe Forum continues SNC’s more than decade-long tradition of bringing high-profile speakers to the community. The event was created in 1997 in alignment with the mission of Sierra Nevada College, which emphasizes environmental, social, economic, and cultural responsibility and sustainability.

Alternative Energy Home presentation by Ben Solomon at Sierra Nevada College on Aug. 31.
Learn how to develop your own net energy producing, alternative energy home. The program consists of images and description of the development of the Alternative Energy Program at SNC from 1971 to the present, and the conversion of the Solomon house from a “tract” house to a net energy producer.
The material will include helpful information for home owners to reduce their energy consumption and thereby lower utility bills as well as improve home comfort.
Solomon is a professor of Alternative Energy at Sierra Nevada College. He has worked in the energy field since 1971, and has developed many devices and techniques for conserving and harnessing energy.
Time: 5:30pm No-Host Bar. Program begins promptly at 6pm.

If you’ve wanted to try backpacking but weren’t quite sure how to get started, then join the TRTA for Backpacking 101.
Led by seasoned guides and Snowcamping 101 instructors Wayne McClelland and Jordan Summers, this class will go over all the basics of backpacking from what to bring and how to pack to choosing a campsite and cooking your meals.
The two will guide participants to Gray Lake on a 5-mile hike with 2,000 feet of elevation gain. You must be able to hike 5+ miles per day at elevation with a 20-30 pound backpack. Participants must provide their gear, food and clothing.
Backpacking 101 is designed to equip you with the confidence to plan a safe backpacking trip. This course will start in the classroom, but then you practice the skills you just learned in an overnight experience. Specifically, your guides/instructors will cover: trip planning; packing; basic orientation skills; bear awareness; campsite selection and set-up; cooking hints and demonstrations; principals of Leave No Trace.
Dates: July 11-12.
Cost: Suggested $60 donation.

The Douglas County Public Library in Zephyr Cove is sponsoring a special summer reading program on June 25 at 1:30pm.
Children ages 6 and up will build a water bottle rocket and launch it. Awards will be given for the highest flyer, farthest flight and coolest design.
Bring two 2-liter plastic bottles and three small personal-size water bottles clean and dry with labels removed for rocket building. Sign up by June 24 to participate.

Hike Description: After an extended winter, summer has arrived. There is much to celebrate; warmer weather, Lake Tahoe excursions, family vacations and adventures.
Hike toward Mt. Rose, stopping for lunch at Galena Falls, and then continuing to loop back to the trailhead.
Children over 10 years of age only and no dogs on this hike.
