Toccata presents “Big Organ Bash” as part of the 11th Annual Hot August Pipes Aug. 6 at 7:30pm at St. Patrick’s Episcopal in Incline Village with organist David Brock. Tickets are $20/adult, $5/students, 12 and under free.

The 4-H Camp in Stateline is having an open house Sept. 12 from 10am-2pm.

The event is an opportunity to see changes to the camp and to learn what future changes are in store.

Lunch is sponsored by Nevada Farm Bureau Federation and a donation of $5 is suggested.

In addition to lunch, the camp beach will be open for swimming, and tours of the cabins and new dining pavilion will be available. Various groups will have exhibits set up, and there will be a presentation on the history of 4-H in Nevada.

On Aug. 21 from 10am to 3pm the South Lake Tahoe Branch Library will be having a book sale to support the Friends of the Library Free Children’s Programs. Many hardcover and paperback books will be available at deep discounts.

Nevada State Parks invites the public to Mormon Station State Historic Park at 10am July 31 to hear a free presentation on “Women’s Voices on the Overland Trail.”

The 45-minute presentation will feature stories from women’s diaries and reminiscences of early pioneers who traveled westward on the trail. These accounts, which pay special attention to the landscape, Native Americans and the danger and promise of the journey, provide a vivid account of pioneer life and illustrate how women pioneers often formed the backbone and inspiration for the long, arduous western journeys of 19th-century emigrants.

Doris Dwyer will give the presentation. Dwyer is a professor of history at Western Nevada College whose research focuses on women pioneers of the nineteenth century American West. She is also nationally known for her Chautauqua portrayals of remarkable women from this period. Her appearance is made possible by the Nevada Humanities Committee, the National Endowment for the Humanities and NV Energy.

Bring a blanket, lawn chairs and meet in the shaded stockade area of Mormon Station State Historic Park. After the presentation, enjoy a picnic lunch in the park and tour the log-cabin museum and see relics from early pioneers. A $1 entry fee applies. Children 12 and under are free.

Mormon Station State Historic Park is located in Genoa, a 20 minute drive from Carson City via Highway 395 and a 20 minute drive from South Lake Tahoe via Kingsbury Grade.

On Aug. 13 from 5-7pm at Aspen Hollow Nursery at 541 Emerald Bay Road, South Lake Tahoe there will be a Garden Party sponsored by the Tahoe Area Sierra Club and the nursery.

Proceeds benefit the Sierra Club’s efforts to protect Lake Tahoe.

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce Garden Party Business After Hours Mixer at Kingsbury Square is July 28 from 5:30–7:30pm.

The Garden Party mixer is hosted by member businesses located in Kingsbury Square, including Sunbasin Nursery, Balance Body Studios, KRLT 93.9 “The Lake” and KOWL 1490 “The Owl”, Erik Watada State Farm and Floppy’s. The mixer will be based out of Sunbasin Nursery. Mirabelle Restaurant will provide hors d’oeuvres.
