Aimee Rebmann, artist at Creative Juices Events, is offering two guided painting sessions — “Glass of Red” from 11am-1pm and “Whimsical Picnic” from 2-4pm — at Lava Cap Winery in Placerville on March 24.

Cost is $45 per session. This includes all art materials (16×20 canvas and acrylic paints), wine tasting, and a spread of crackers and cheeses. Wine by the glass or bottle and assorted gourmet deli items available for purchase. Register online.

Tickets are on sale for the annual Passport wine event in El Dorado County.

The event often sells out. This year the dates are April 14-15 and April 21-22 from 11am until 5pm.

Wine lovers can enjoy 32 award-winning wineries. New to the event this year are Synapse, Shadow Ranch, Nello Olivo, Cielo Estates, Skinner and Grace Patriot.

Each winery will feature a wine and food pairing from a Mediterranean country and many will also have art, music and barrel tasting.

To purchase tickets and see a full list of participating wineries, go online. Tickets are $70 per passport weekend for unlimited wine, food and entertainment. Designated drivers can enjoy all the festivities without the wine for $26.62 per wristband.

The 44th annual Tahoe Douglas Rotary St. Patrick’s Day celebration is March 16 at 6pm at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe.

The evening includes a silent auction, live auction, full Irish buffet, wine tasting, entertainment and dancing.

A new addition this year is the wine grab. For $10 people can buy a bottle of wine that will be inside a bag, so you won’t know if you’re getting a $50 bottle of wine or one that is $10 or $20 in value.

Tickets to the event are $55 each or a table of 10 is $500. There will be a week in Hawaii and $1.000 in cash raffled off during the evening.

Lake Tahoe Water Trail’s annual Spring Paddle is May 19 from 9am-1pm.

Launch from Commons Beach in Tahoe City for a morning paddle, followed by lunch at Sunnyside.

Interpretive guides will navigate and educate about the Lake Tahoe environment. All ages and skill levels are welcome.

UC Davis’s Tahoe Environmental Research Center in partnership with Lake Tahoe School and Tahoe Expedition Academy will host the seventh annual Science Expo this month.

The Science Expo features interactive experiments and demonstrations for children ages 6 to 12 and their families.

The Science Expo is open to the general public on March 14 from 4–6pm at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village. Ice cream will be provided by Susie Scoops of Incline Village. Admission is free.

The 2012 Science Expo will showcase 20 hands-on exhibits, activities and demonstrations emphasizing Life Science concepts including:

Microorganisms

Nano-, micro- and macro-scales of life

DNA

Plankton

Fish of Lake Tahoe

Metamorphosis

Photosynthesis

Pollen, seeds and plants

Last year, nearly 700 people, students and parents, came through the Science Expo event. The event is hosted annually on a three-year cycle with emphasis on Life Science (2012), Physical Science (2013) and Earth Science (2014).

This year, students from Kings Beach, Incline Village, Tahoe City, Truckee and South Lake Tahoe will be attending during the school days of March 12-15.

The Tea Party Patriots of El Dorado Hills are hosting a candidates forum March 21 at 7pm.

Those expected to attend are Superior Court judge candidates Stephen Valentine, Joseph Hoffman and Warren Stracener, and supervisor candidates John Knight (District 1 incumbent) and challenger Ron Mikulaco, and Ray Nutting (District 2 incumbent) and challenger George Turnboo.

Dream Spirit Baroque Band will present a concert of Celtic music in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 from 7:30-9:30pm at the Toccata Center for the Performing Arts.

The band features a mix of instruments — violin, cello, guitar and mandolin.

The inaugural Expedition Man Endurance Festival will be Aug. 25 throughout Northern Nevada.

This is the region’s first ultra distance triathlon.

The course starts swimmers at Zephyr Cove.

The 112-mile bike ride will utilize a variety of Northern Nevada’s scenery, including a 1,400-foot elevation drop into Carson City.

Three fast out-and-back’s around the Sparks Marina will cap off this extraordinary race.
