Sierra-at-Tahoe’s 8th annual Telegrass Festival is March 26 and 27.

This homegrown event brings out teleskiers from all over Northern California for a weekend celebration of the freeheel life.

Snowboarder magazine’s THE HIT comes to Sierra Resort on March 12.

New this season, THE HIT lets locals experience the excitement of a large-scale photo shoot with an oversized custom build and the industry’s top photographers clicking shutter buttons from every angle. Get that perfect shot and it could end up in Snowboarder magazine. Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort is the only Tahoe stop for this rider-judged contest, and will draw Northern California’s top regional athletes for a chance to get noticed by one of snowboarding’s most respected publications.

Gatorade Free Flow Tour is Feb. 5 and 6 at Sierra-at-Tahoe.

This high-profile event will bring Northern California’s top amateur skiers and snowboarders out for a weekend of jibbing, jumping and bonking on a custom build. Three events – Slopestyle, Superpipe and Junior Rail Jam – will emphasize quality terrain park features, skier/rider style, and industry standard judging.

Each division winner from this event will move on to the Free Flow Tour finals at the February stop of the 2010-11 Winter Dew Tour where they will compete for a wildcard spot in the 2011-12 Winter Dew Tour.

Volcom is opening its North American tour at Sierra Resort, bringing the winter’s first large scale event to the Lake Tahoe region Jan. 2.

This jam-format, grass roots event is free and accessible to any and every snowboarder who can hit a rail.

The custom build on Broadway draws one of the largest competitive turnouts of the season and is easily accessible to spectators.

Daron Rahlves’ ski-cross-style Silver Belt Banzai Races.

The races will be at Alpine Meadows (Jan. 22-23), Kirkwood (Feb. 5-6) and Sugar Bowl (March 12-13) and will feature skiers and snowboarders going head-to-head around gates set on big-mountain terrain.

On Nov. 11 at 11am the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe is honoring all living and passed veterans at the American Legion Post, 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Squaw Valley is giving skiers and snowboarders something to be thankful for Thanksgiving weekend. Nov. 27 is the Thanksjibbin’ rail jam.

The base mountain location means lift tickets are not necessary to watch or enter this rail competition.

Judges will be dishing out cash prizes as well as Thanksgiving treats including butterball turkeys, smoked hams and Cornish game hens for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Pumpkin pies will be handed out as seen fit for style, creative tricks and best outfit.

Squaw Valley Terrain Park Director JP Martin recommends skiers and riders dig out their retro outfits and polish off their old school tricks. Outfits and style will be rewarded.

Thanksjibbin’ is an open entry, jam style competition with four classes: men’s and women’s ski and snowboard. Registration is 3-4pm and the competition starts at 5pm. The competition entry fee is $10 and helmets are mandatory.

On Nov. 11 at 7:30am, Ryder Evans will speak at the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra meeting about ShelterBox.

ShelterBox is an international relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide. This organization responds instantly to disasters delivering aid as quickly as possible to the people who need it most.

Evans is on the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue team, which has ties to this international organization.

ShelterBox is helping with the relief from the tsunami in Indonesia.

ShelterBox relies solely on public donations.
